Dried out Cohibas

My "kid" turned 21 Sunday, He decided to stop at a local liquor store the night before to see if he could get away with buying before his time. NOT. So he decided to be 2 Cohibas, from the large walk in humidor there, for him and me to sit on the dock and smoke Sunday on his birthday.

They were so dry, they were crunchy! The outer wrapper was separating.

He brought them back, and bought himself a six pack of Sam Adams Double Bock (damn good beer!), and gave the guy a hard time about ruining his 21st birthday. The guy says they've been having a spat of dried up Cohibas. Any truth to this?

So the guy finally tells him to go in and get two of anything. So he said he went in and brought out two $20 cigars in sealed glass tubes. I haven't seen him since then, but I'll let y'all know what he got and how they were next weekend!

I've not had any problems at all with receiving dried Cohibas and I use 2 different wholesalers to get my premium cigars. Both are national distributors of premium grade cigars. I'd guess that his humidor is screwed up and a lot more cigars are dried out. A dry cigar can be brought back up to humidity if it is properly stored, so since these came out of the humidor crunchy then I wonder what else is crunchy in the same humidor?

The only excuse he could make is that the cigars were just delivered and arrived crunchy and had not been in his humidor very long.

I know of a lot of stores that keep their premium cigars in the back room and only put them in the humidor when they need to refill the shelves. I keep a humidor in my back room, the new deliveries go into the back room humidor until they are placed out in the sales area humidors. I don't have the "walk in" style, but rather use a series of "reach in" humidors lined up along the wall.
