Don't forget your meds......

The Old Salt
when you are putting together your SHTF supply. Having plenty of food and water is important, of course, but without your critical meds it is all for naught. I am working on a 90 day supply right now. Hopefully, eventually i can expand it out to a year.

It is hard to do that. Meds are so controlled by the doctors and the pharmacies.

I take Advair four puffs a day. But I only need two in the morning. So, over time, I've been gaining on it. BP medicine is a bit different. I need it daily or the pressure Zooms. I can do without now or later.

Att 62, my wife takes no daily meds, except for an occasional aspirin.

That's it. Other than aspirin. We have socked away tons of two pill sachets, badaids, antibactrial ointments etc along with battle bandages and other trauma supplies. I don't expect to use them but as a trained paramedic, I may find a need post SHTF.

I may be old, ugly, and hardly charming. But, perhaps folks will keep me around if I'm useful.

Keep the wits and knowledge you have now and you'll be fine.

I've changed things up a bit. Switched from a MD to a DO to try the more... (I don't know how to describe. I hope you know the difference).

Doing more home or natural remedies as well. Will be applying vinegar to a part of the body that's having an issue. I can do that or go to the doc to get a cream. I'll try the vinegar first.

I don't need meds to survive at this point but do have some that help.

I have a pretty good relationship with my doctor. I just told him what I wanted, he wrote the prescriptoin, and I'm good to go. Had to pay it out of my own pocket, no insurance, but that's imaterial. I have it and that's all that matters.

I as well. I had to pay out of pocket but that is fine. I did not expect the insurance to pay for any extras.

i get loads of samples of meds from my doctors that my insurance company won't cover when i already have plenty @ home. covered meds i get when i really need not get them for awhile if it's time to get them, insurance'll cover them & the doc's script says so,, when i have nary a need for them just yet, JIK.

I also use a DO. One who completed chiropractic studies as well. Great source for homeopathic care,,,,,,,, live healthy not medicated care..

I pay our of pocket whichbenefits me, but alsomy doctor who doesn't have to wait 90 days for the money.

It saves more than 60% on the bill.

Next year, if Obamacare is manditory, we do not know how we will do it. But for now, I see him, we discuss therapies and life style mods. I pay him.
Done.

I could get by without a lot of mine. Always have a good stock of pain meds and most stuff have a 30-90 day supply on hand. I have some that they reduced the dose I can always cut with my pill cutter.

Not sure what type of pain you're dealing with, muleman. But a serious SHTF scenario for folks (like you and me) with chronic pain will become a serious issue, particularly when that 60-day cache of morphine sulphate runs out. The stuff is controlled so tightly nowadays because of the addicts and the abusers that the guy that really needs it can't so easily get it by his doc's as-needed prescription, let alone build up a bug out supply. And guaranteed the first thing to get ransacked when SHTF will be the pharmacies.

So hell yes, it will be a problem. And a damned painful one. WTF will people do?
