DMC 1200 restoration completed

It's finally finished and waiting for snow. I can't wait to run it in the deep powder. :thumb:
The machine is a 1981 DeLorean 1200 with about 2200 hours of use.
I replaced several skins on the cab to remove all dents. The rear deck was totally rebuilt with new frame work and wood. Freshly upholstered seats, new carpet, foam headliner and door inserts. The doors were both reskinned with a heavier aluminum and new sliders installed. Nothing was left unattended in the restoration. Like new:o

It snowed here today! Just a little of the lake effect off of Lake Michigan and cover the ground (until the sun melted it), but enough to make me smile.

Beautiful restoration. :a1: What are your plans for this unit? You have a couple snowcats don't you?

nutsster,
Sounds like you are ready for winter. Nice job on the DMC rebuild. The 1200 is just a great snow cat and very much bullet proof in design. You will love the handling and balance, although you will notice it is also much heavier than an Imp and harder to transport. It would be hard for me to part with my 1200 until I find something better.

:cool2: :a1: :applause:

I love your beautiful Tucker! I like to see these machines taken care of and preserved. Many of them are not so lucky.
I use the Imp to transport people and things to our cabin in the Uinta's, that is about 2.5 miles from the pavement. The DMC will be used to pull a drag in our property association and haul some materials for contractors in the area. It is my work horse of the two. :o

Hey Nutsster! Good job, what did you do to restore the slider windows? I was thinking of a camper slider but cant find the correct size. SV

Nice Job! A real class act !:a1: I need to get my little project completed also . I have been way to easy on them Snot Trac owners:blahblah: . Enjoy your ride !

Thanks mtntopper for the pointers on the fuel filter problems. My DMC is equipped with the electric fuel cut-off solenoid, and a carb filter attached to the carb body. I replaced the upside down mounted filter too. It appears that this was standard equipment on the DMC, because it was listed on the origination paperwork that Peterson's has on file form the factory records.
This cat was built in April of 1981, and delivered to Mountain Services in Sacramento, California in December of 1981. What I have seen from the paperwork, nothing was added or taken off the cat in it's lifetime. :thumb:

As for the windows, I replaced the side windows with new OEM rubber weather strip and window slider channel. I purchased it form Peterson's Equipment. It's somewhat expensive to replace, but I wanted it right. It was around $100.00 per window to do. It's a little tricky to install properly too. Get some instruction and go slow, I have seen it butchered on some cats. I had some rubber weather stripping left over from the Thiokol 1402 to do the front and rear windows.:cool2:

I have a few more pictures of the DMC. I lost the "before" pictures when my hard drive crashed from a virus. I'm going to see if we have them saved on a CD.

Call Marty Seelos at 801-521-0360. He had a complete set of 36 inch tracks available last year for a Thiokol Spryte or LMC.

The seats are the original seats recovered with a cloth center insert.
It has the 36" tracks that make it 8'-4" wide. I wouldn't mind having the 48" tracks, but it wouldn't be trailerable or fit in my garage at the cabin.
It doesn't really need wider tracks because it performs great "as-is" The two man aluminum cab makes it much lighter than the five man or full cab 1200's.

We had a few weeks of 4 to 5 feet of soft powder to operate in through late February and early March. It was fun to run it head to head against a few other cats to compare performance. In climbing, it was unbeatable, even against my friend's Tucker, which really surprised us both. ( it wasn't even close) The snow was so deep and soft that you would sink up to your arm pits if you stepped off the tracks. I also had powder getting sucked into the engine causing the alternator belt to squeal at times. Way to much fun. :letitsnow:

I added fenders in February to keep the snow from piling up on the deck. :thumb:

I found a photo graph of it before I bought it. I'll have to scan it so I can post it. The paint was an epoxy. It has held up very well though this last winter.

I finally found the pictures, nearly a year later! I really wish that I had some of the interior, but it was too gross to photograph.

This is what it looked like when I purchased it. The camper shell didn't make the trip home with me. The rear corners were both banged up a lot. The front corner was poorly bondo'd. I ended up reskinning the front corners and the bondo area too. I replaced the cracked windshield with new tinted glass.

I bought it in February and ran it until late April to see what it needed. Here's a shot of the rear to show the condition of the cab and deck.

This will give you an idea of what I had to start with. It was in pretty good shape overall. I had a lot of little repairs from neglect. However, the big ticket items were all in good shape.

My company is going to sell our DMC 1200 Snowcat. It is s/nD2A-1887 and has 1599 hours on the engine. I have photos and pricing that I can e-mail to anyone interested. It is located in Lakeside, CA (probably the only Snowcat in San Diego) and is offered with, or without, a trailer.

Tom,
First, welcome to the Forums. :tiphat: Second, I would think you might have better luck by listing your unit for sale in a brand new thread. If you can email photos, then you should be able to upload them here and let people take a look at it. We get requests all the time by people looking for units, the best way to have them see yours is to start a new thread offering it for sale.

Good advice - thank you. I'm such a novice at this I'm not sure I qualify as a Junior Member. Fortunately my younger sister is here to help me.
