A man working at the Post Office had the job of sorting mail with illegible addresses. One day, he came across a letter with shaky handwriting addressed simply to "God"—no address, no return info.
Curious, he opened it.
Inside, he found a heartfelt message from an 83-year-old widow named Edna:
"Dear God,
I live on a small pension, and yesterday, someone stole my purse. It had $100 in it—the only money I had until my next check. This Sunday is Christmas, and I had planned to make dinner for two dear friends. Now, I have nothing to buy food with. I have no family to turn to… you are my only hope. Please help me.
Sincerely, Edna."
The postal worker was touched. He showed the letter to his colleagues, and one by one, they all pitched in. By the time they finished, they had collected $96. They placed it in an envelope and sent it to Edna.
That day, the entire office felt warm and joyful, imagining the Christmas dinner she would now be able to have.

Christmas came and went.
A few days later, another letter from Edna arrived—again addressed to "God."
Excited, the postal workers gathered around as the man carefully opened it.
This time, the letter read:
"Dear God,
How can I ever thank you enough for what you did for me? Because of your generosity, I was able to prepare a wonderful Christmas dinner for my friends. We had an amazing day, and I told them all about your kindness and the miracle you sent.
"By the way… there was $4 missing. I think those bastards at the Post Office must have taken it!"
