From time to time one of my credit cards or debit cards gets cloned and people order stuff, charge it to my card and I report the fraud, the card gets cancelled, my account gets credited and my account gets reimbursed for the fraud.
An odd thing happened about 2 months ago.
I got notified by Home Depot my delivery of Makita tools was shipping. I got an order number, etc. I have a H.D. commercial account so I look it up and I can't see that order in my file on their system. I call H.D. and tell them. They agreed the order is in error and the person said they would "cancel" the shipment, which was going to an address in a different state.
I thought no more of it.
A couple days later I get delivery confirmation the order was delivered.
Another few days pass and I get notified by Home Depot that another delivery of Makita tools is scheduled for deliver. But this time the delivery address is actually MY HOME address. Call H.D. blah blah blah. They say none of these tools are charged on my account, same with the last shipment.
So I go into my statements for my actual credit cards. Find out these are charged to my CHASE bank card, but because I have an account with H.D. it is H.D. that notified me about the shipments. So I file "Fraud Claims" with CHASE. I literally tell them I am in possession of some of the merchandise and I want to return it.
CHASE calls today, they consider both of the charges (totally nearly $3000) to be "Fraud" and deduct them from my account.
I ask (again, for like the 3rd time) OK, but what do I do with these tools because when I take them to Home Depot they want to give me store credit. But the money does not belong to me. It actually belongs to Chase.
I guess I am too honest because I feel I should not spend the money. But I also can't give it to H.D. because they have been made whole. It's like I should dump the tools on the doorstep of the Chase bank in town? They literally told me they appreciate that I don't want to keep the money but they have written it off as fraud so it is mine.
