Cooper Hawks Nesting Nearby

As some of you know, Crumpy and I have a Certified bird sanctuary in our backyard. We have forty-five-year-old trees, Oak, Maple, Walnut, and plenty of cover from the European Honeysuckle trees Our yard is usually a bustle on birds which frequent our four feeders. We go through over 25 lbs. of seed a month year-round.
For the last week or so the population has diminished. Business is slow. The reason? A pair of Cooper hawks nesting in the Oak trees of our neighbor.

Chicks hatched a few weeks ago and mom and pop have been busy bringing in fresh meat. IE, our customers.

Last Saturday the neighbor came over to ask what to do about one of the chicks having fallen out of the nest. Should she call animal rescue?

I told her no, it is normal. It goes like this. Mama cuddles her babies, Dad says it's time for them to go. Mom says no! Dad steps over and kicks one out. It floats to the ground.

OKAY, we will try again tomorrow.

No worries, the parents will rescue the chick. And they did.

I wish I had pictures, but the nest is 40 feet high in the Oak tree.
