CLARKSON'S FARM, the TV series on Amazon Prime

For those of you who are members of Amazon Prime I'd like to recommend a streaming TV series.

The series is called CLARKSON'S FARM. Jeremy Clarkson of the TV show TOP GEAR, which had 3 guys doing totally stupid/fun things with cars, happens to own a farm and he actually lives on the farm. The show details his attempts at farming. It is a fun and frustrating look at farming, government regulations, and the lack of profits.

Jeremy Clarkson clearly admits he knows nothing about farming. He had a farm manager who managed the property for many years, but that guy retired so he decided to run the farm himself. And he started the process just before COVID hit. The series documents his attempts to become a farmer.

If you are looking for something to watch, and enjoy reality TV, and British humor mixed with British frustration, this show might be a good match for you.

If you want to see how much/little farmers make, versus how much effort it takes to farm, then watch the whole series, all the way to the last episode.

Watched the series a few weeks ago and thoroughly enjoyed it.
I'm also a huge fan of the GRAND TOUR which is the new version of TOP GEAR.

I think the series is more than just fun.

It really shows some of the struggles of farming. Obviously we have a multi-millionaire actor/TV personality who is the host, but he realizes, by the end, that much of his struggles to make a profit are hobbled by the government that he probably is generally in support of and generally relies upon. He goes through the process of being paid for not farming 300 of his acres and what it takes to become a sheep farmer. He clearly illustrates the frustrations of being a small shop owner and how easily the government can shut your shop down over trivial issues (in his case the fact that he didn't use expensive slate for his roof).

After a full year of farming he earned less that $1000 and laments the plight of all farmers, after all, he has his millions and his income from TV shows and other sources. But normal farmers can't rely on income streams from being an actor.

Much of the struggles of farming are either Governmental or the big one, a market place that is out of control.
Or this year it is the weather that is the issue. We in the Western corn belt in a deep drought and have been for over a year now.
Grain prices reflect that fact, but if you don't grow it you can't not sell those high prices. We can insure our crops to 80% of an average harvest. But as in most any business if you take 20% off the gross, much of the profit is already gone. High grain prices bring on much higher input cost to farm as well. This spring the price increases had me purchasing next years fertilizer, $75K worth and tie up the money for a year...
When I watch Clarkson all the negatives are easy to ignore as I live them.

I watch because it is funny to see this guy so out of his element.

Bump.
Season 2 just hit Amazon. I'm only 1 episode in but it has the same "oh shit, what are you doing" vibe as season 1.

I finished Season 2, which is apparently the last season, due to some controversy where the woke people at Amazon are offended by something the actor said.

Actually fully enjoyed the show, but am dumbstruck by the level of bullcrap that the British subjects have to deal with just to make a living. This guy is exposing all the garbage that the Crown's bureaucracy, which apparently operates at multiple over-lapping levels for the sole purpose of turning peoples glorious plans into heaping piles of manure. Layer after layer of obstructive government seeming step in to beat down innovators, job creators and dreamers. What a great system!!!
