Bighorn Mountain cabin

We have owned this 40 acres for a few years. Finally finished some right-of-way issues that we had and knew about when we purchased the property. It was very reasonably priced because of those issues and we have worked through those now. Now the hard work starts. It's a virgin piece of property with heavy timber, Creek, and a large sandstone Pinnacle Butte. The Butte has about 5 acres on the top of it with trees and flat ground. Hopefully in the future I would like to get access to the top and build a small cabin on it as a secluded getaway. It's kind of a neat feature as it's about 40 ft straight up at its lowest point to the top. With a good majority of it 80 to 100 ft. Figured some of the members would enjoy the pictures and stories as we develop this piece of property.

Funny story. Picking up this snow cat is what started the property search in this area. This cat was located about 2 mi down the hill from where we ended up purchasing our mountain property.

I'll let you know when I get one. 🙂 You're welcome any time!! But I would not recommend trying the squatting thing in Wyoming.. I bet it doesn't end well.

Today was a good day! Pioneered a trail! forgot how Rusty I am on an excavator! In one of my former lives, I buried pipeline for miles and miles, I would be fired in the first hour if I tried that nowadays. With my vision getting worse I find that my biggest obstacle. We've been stuck in such a drought. We did end up with about an inch and a half of rain a couple days ago but as you can see by the pictures it was pure powder 1 in below the top. Did not make it very conducive to building a nice road. Oh well time will tell. Hopefully we get some moisture and I can do something with this powder. Any words of wisdom? Feel free!

This weekend was slow working. I didn't get to the mountain until Saturday. Noonish. Started working on the entrance road. Was hoping to get the gates hung. But after the drought we have been in, I found it difficult to dig the post holes without digging a hole, the size of a 55 gallon drum. Poured a bunch of water around the area that I was digging. filled the holes a few times to hopefully get some better conditions when I go back up this week. Mother nature decided she wanted to help me out Also SNOW!! I propped the gate up as the road work made it look a little too inviting to the local hunters. Hopefully I can get both gates put up and locked before elk rifle season opens on the 15th. We tend to get lots of out of staters who really don't understand private property. One note I haven't bought posts lately. I about fell over backwards on the price of 8 in by 8 ft posts. Ouch!

Looks like you are off to a good start. Wildlife is coming to see whats going on
Thanks. Yeah we have a lot planned. I was going to try to get a cabin up this fall yet, not sure if that will happen. Will just depend on what type of fall we have. I ordered a d log cabin kit that is supposed to be here in the next few weeks. Will be a good starter cabin. Hopefully down the road we will build an actual log house to pass on to our future generation.
