1983 Tucker 1744C

IIRC there was an auction last June in Fairbanks and there were seven former Aleyeska Tuckers. All had the Detroit Diesel 4-53 engine with Allison transmission combination and they were either three or four door 1700 series machines.

I thought they went very cheap and I suspect this was one of them. If so, the seller has a lot of flexibility on price and can still make money.

I've often wondered about the general desirability of the 4-53 powered Tuckers. The engine is a two stroke Diesel and is very noisy, even by Diesel standards, it's also heavy, smelly, and has a reputation as being prone to oil leaks.

Nice looking Tucker though!

the 2 stroke diesels were prone to leaking like harleys the air box had drain tubes to let oil in the induction system drain out as for reliability they are built well and aare quite simple for the longest time it was the engine to have in a cold climate because they would start when it was cold theywere also noisy and kind of thirsty too remember a 2 stroke fires twice as many times the only 2 weak spots are because of governor design when the engine is in ful fuel the only way to shut it down is to turn off the fuel at the tank or discharge a co2 fire extuinguisher in the intake to remove the oxigyn i once had a runaway eat half the manual trying to shut it down alse if the engine over heats the blower will seize and break the blower drive shaft the cycles would also crack heads if run with coolant below the fire deck

Jee 3X the money no less....but there is a groomer included at 30K

I suppose there are greedy folks everywhere. Hope he ends up with much less.

Parts might be a problem for the 4-53 I am thinking if you need some thing major. There are however lots of used parts out there. Finding a mechanic these days isn't as easy as it used to be either.
