Here’s a beauty all original 1984 1544 from British Columbia Canada, currently located in Lumby. I am the second owner. It was purchased new for BC Tel and is factory painted in their colours. It has low hours 488.6. It all works as it should.

30,000$

I’m more than a bit surprised this is still for sale. IMHO, the price is very reasonable. Every year on the forum people bemoan the lack of used Tuckers and/or the high prices. Well, this is a nice, unmolested and very desirable machine - at a very fair price.

As a 1984 model it incorporates some nice features earlier rubber-belted Tuckers don’t have. For example, though there are no clear photos, I believe it has damper wheels instead of track slides. The door hinges are an improved style, as are the door latches. Having the obitrol in the cab means your feet aren’t fighting the steering column. I much prefer the tilting hood, as opposed to the clamshell style.

The grousers do show some wear, and definitely more than you’d expect to see on a machine with such low hours, but not hugely so and their condition is not a show stopper. Track belting shows some weather cracking, but the belts have quite a bit of life left in them. From the photos, the idler wheels look to be in pretty darn nice shape, as do the drive sprockets, though the left rear outer sprocket may have what looks to be relatively minor damage (can't definitively say from the photos).

Tuckers were usually sold to governmental agencies, utility companies and for use as groomers. I’ve owned Tuckers will all three types of previous ownership history and in my experience ex-utility company machines are the ones to get, if you can. They tend to be very well maintained, don’t get a lot of use, and the people who do use them treat them with some care.

Looking at the information sheet a few things stand out. Every Tucker I’ve bought has had 4.88:1 ring and pinion gear sets and this Tucker has 6.17:1 gears. That’s a little more than 25% lower. Tuckers aren’t fast with 4.88:1, gears and this one will be slower still. The transfer case is the standard duty unit as opposed to the heavy duty model. The Vickers hydraulic pump has the 11 GPM ring. That’s odd because there are no auxiliary hydraulic ports or front blade. In my experience I would have expected an 8 GPM ring based on (lack of) hydraulically powered options. All of the Tucker’s I’ve bought have come with 49 gallon tanks. This has a somewhat larger tank.

Yes, I wish it had the 360 engine, long tracks and an Allison automatic transmission, but this is a nice machine. And… it’s NOT GREEN!

I’ll also mention I've bought two Tuckers from Canada, both in British Columbia. It may be different now (my last purchase was in 2018) but getting them into the US was not an issue at all. As they were manufactured in the US, there were no import duties or taxes due.

On the information sheet it's showing "Locking diff. 1433-1" Does anyone know exactly what that means? Did Tucker use Detroit lockers in 1984 or is this just simply a limited slip diff?? Does it mean both front and back are the same?
