UK Bus Certified hahaha

Galvatron

Spock and Galvatron < one and the same
Now the UK is really getting stupid.....my son of a similar age has been laughing all day over this....:yum::yum::yum:

http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-1206444/Boy-gets-exam-certificate-catching-bus.html

Eagerly awaiting his GCSE results, Bobby McHale was surprised to receive an early letter from an examination board.

The 15-year-old was not expecting his results until later this month, so he was understandably nervous as he opened the mystery envelope.

But what he saw left him astonished, for Bobby had indeed been awarded a certificate - for getting the bus.

It came from the Assessment and Qualifications Alliance, the largest of the three English exam boards, and was headed Using Public Transport (Unit 1).

The certificate recognised, among other skills, his ability to walk to the local bus stop, enter the bus 'in a calm and safe manner', and wait until the bus has stopped before trying to get off.

Bobby, who wasn't even aware he had taken the test, received the AQA certificate after attending a three-week holiday scheme for teenagers run by Bury Youth Services in Greater Manchester.

Some of his friends who attended the scheme also received the qualification although others, including his younger brother Joe, 13, did not.

'Maybe he wasn't up to it,' said Bobby, who is hoping for A grades at GCSE.

'At first I thought I'd got some sort of GCSE early. When I read out the details to the family we all fell about laughing.

'The Bury Youth Scheme is excellent and we get the chance to do a lot of activities but I can't see the point of the certificate at all.'

How To Get The Bus Certificate

1. walk to the local bus stop;

2. stand or sit at the bus stop and wait for the arrival of a bus;

3. enter the bus in a calm and safe manner;

4. be directed to a downstairs seat by a member of staff;

5. sit on the bus and observe through the windows;

6. wait until the bus has stopped, stand on request and exit the bus.

"There was of course no way of knowing whether you were being watched at any given moment. How often, or on what system, the Thought Police plugged in on any individual wire was guesswork. It was even conceivable that they watched everybody all the time. But at any rate they could plug in your wire whenever they wanted to. You had to live—did live, from habit that became instinct—in the assumption that every sound you made was overheard, and, except in darkness, every movement scrutinized."

Does your son get picked up by the 'short bus' by any chance?

Sorry, Galv, I know better. I just couldn't help it! :yum:

could go far if he took the Bus :yum::yum::yum:

Nixon PM'd me with a good request...."how the education system works in the UK"

so heres what happens where i am and i have my kids in public education..

Here the kids start at the age of 2 and a half in nursery...moving on to reception that is aged 4 and year 1 at the age of 5...reception is the age of full time education.

Year 1 heads up to 6 and thats the Junior years and then it's off to senior school.

Senior school they do general year 7-8 with standard learning...then they take options that will give them a choice to study chosen subjects to aim for a future career if they knuckle down...in my sons case he studied engineering as one of his chosen subjects and dont forget Math, English,science and IT..not forgetting core PE(dont want them getting too fat:yum:)

Now at the year 11 stage they take their exams...here it is GCSE exams and my son was given the target of getting at least 5 passes to have an option to stay on school for further Education...thats when they go further and target A/O level passes...in my sons case he is targeting them plus Diploma's....but knowing the way the system keeps on changing in a few weeks this could all change.

After the age of 16 your on ya own unless you really want it...kids can leave school and blow away their lives...i want Education mandatory until the age of 21......if not Education then apprenticeships lerning a trade.

By the way my son has worked his Ass and has a part time job in the summer and is stressing on his results..."HE WANTS A FUTURE".

Fingers crossed and a few prayers would be nice.

Nixon ask more if i failed in the answer what you were looking for....im a educated failure:yum::yum:...it's true:yum:

Thanks Galv ! But , could You please explain the distinction between an A and an O level ? I never could get an explanation of that while I was there .

I never had either so i will explain it in the way i know.....get a A level and your a smart dude thats worked hard....get a O level and your a smart Ass with candy on top...just the difference i guess of getting a A pass and a B pass...but the O level Exam will be harder...if you think you know more than others you will get given the harder O level exam to pass.....hence you get a interview quicker for a job.

So do a 2 year course in Math and work hard and take the O level exam(mom and Dad pay the bills)....be a slight slacker and enjoy the pub sleep around(playing Russian roulette with disease and fatherhood)and maybe even hold down a part time job to help pay some bills(hence slightly distracted) do the A level.

By the way i would have been a A level if i only would have finished high school:yum::yum::yum:....and i turned out fine.:whistling::unsure:
