Nice job on the Bombi BCB, you make the yellow ones look pretty darn nice!
You've been pretty quiet out there on the western front . . . been busy working on your big yellow box?
Yeah, took a break from my only social media for a bit, I’ll update the Thing thread soon. And hopefully have a groomed hill to take pics of soon too

Couple more “finishing“ touches to go: added a Jerry can and carrier along with a Hardigg case for storage. I’ll add a spare tire over the next couple of weeks, but she’s almost there (minus a Bombi trailer I’ll build for next year). Truly a fun project!

A few vanity shots:

I typically solder all connections, use waterproof Delphi connections where possible, then use a shrink tube with an impregnated epoxy to protect the connection. I cover all positive power and signal wires with a techflex braided sleaving along with any hoses that are exposed to rubbing. This also helps with potential “in the field” issues with mice....haven’t had one chew through yet! (knocking on wood).

G5sBZDS.jpg

Magnetic coffee/cup holder....only one I found that can handle the bumps (use on Bobcat)

hFUfFuD.jpg

Picked up a surplus Hardigg case....fit perfectly on the rear right side. They’re used for sensitive equipment, weather proof (real nice rubber seal between the cover and case), pretty indestructible. The case has a pressure relief valve.....wasn’t sure what for, but if taking to elevation (ie belly of an aircraft with no pressurization), made sense.

Thats what we wanted!! Yeah! Nice work Bob. Love the magnetic cup holder. I've got an old shrot bus that I use magnets in for lots of things. Those neodymiums are strong. Love the emergency box! Great Idea. I'm starting to think I'm gonna need a bombi trailer to pack some more stuff. :ROFLMAO: Anybody know someone with one of these trailers? Merry Christmas ya filthy animal!

Merry Christmas! I’ve yet to see anyone on here that has one of the original Bombi trailers. I would LOVE to get my hands on one of those.

No doubt. We might have to try and get a group build going on these = ) I'm gonna need one..

I just got my steering bands back from @MNoutdoors. Woooohoooo!
Quick question. Whats the best process for bleeding the diff system. I've drained it but haven't cleaned it out. I'm assuming I have lots off old fluid in the cooler and lines. Do I bother cleaning out the chunk or just fill it up, run it, then drain it again.

Can @MNoutdoors get the wheels and tires for a bombi? The rest is easier.:giggle: Make a set of skis for it as well so that you could can cannibalize it in emergencies for track repair or spare tires.

I replaced the differential fluid lines, then sprayed diesel fuel through the pump, differential and cooler twice, then flushed with 10w-30.....then went with Amsoil synthetic 50 (Boggie’s a dealer).

And by spray you mean stick the sump basin return in a can of diesel and spin the pump with a drill flushing everything back to the diff and drain out. Some parts of this mechanic life I'm super green to. :ROFLMAO:

No, I took it all apart, then sprayed/flushed each component. I did drop the pump pick up in a coffee can, manually flushed with diesel, then 10w-30 until clear of diesel. This way, if any crap was in the lines, wouldn’t be pushing it into the cooler or pump.

The original Bombi tires are no longer made, but Boggie has inflatable tires that’ll fit (I bought two for back up). I’m not sure on rims, but he’ll likely have those as well. I had a rim that was beat up, but using a sledge got it back to useable.

Got her out in the snow, ran great! Put about an hours time on the machine, tightened up the brake bands, turns on a dime! Fun! Mounted a spare tire (thank you Boggie) for “what if” scenario....but I can’t imagine changing a tire out in the middle of no where.

Replaced mud flaps. As Bombardier no longer makes these, I cut out the emblem from the old ones, super glued them to the new flap (CA is the best for rubber on rubber). Also, I’ve been using a rust inhibitor called ACF 50 on machine tools (tooling plates, gauge blocks, etc) for years (originally designed for aircraft).....and found it lasts about 2 years. On our machines, I use it on any non coated surfaces (carburetor, linkages, etc).

Having fun!

Project complete! Now going to build a trailer for the Bombi.....compete with those “Orange” things that use 4 tracks ?.

Parked for its next use....AND had a little garnishment made to cover the spare tire.

I figured out why Bombardier pulls the engine intake air in from the cab vs from the engine compartment......filter will freeze up! I ran the missing intake hose I left off from the air filter to the cab....all better.

Having fun, keeping frosty!

Seems odd that they would have pulled warm air from the passenger instead of having some sort of VW type shroud to pull heat from the header area.

On a defender UTV we pulled air to cool the CVT drive from the cab. It was easier to hook up and didn't have any snow in it and that could have been bombardier thoughts.

Likely the cheapest solution with how tight the space is under the engine cover. The SW 48 does have a shroud to the air intake.

Any idea where I can buy a new wiper blade for the Bombi?

Sanded and painted the nose and engine cover over the weekend....a few sags and overspray, but for a weekend warrior, came out pretty good!

I placed the engine cover on the machine, figured out why there is a hole on the top (air cleaner front edge juts through, oversight on behalf of Bombardier or was this a mod prior owner did?)

Boggie hooked me up with the paint type and formula Bombardier uses.....thank you Boggie! Looks OEM!

Hi Solrus

The paint is Sherwin Williams KEM 4000. I’ve included the paint codes for an exact match. Brad from MNoutdoors gave me the brand and codes (thank you Brad!)…..top notch stuff! Used a hvlp gun, came out really nice!

After losing Brad (thank you Brad for everything you did for us, God rest your soul)……who can we go to for Bombardier parts? (In need of Bombi Steering Brake pads to be relined)
