WTS: 1971 Thiokol Single-Axle Tilt Trailer

I originally purchased this trailer with the intention of using it for my 1404 ST Imp, but then realized that I just don’t trailer the cat that often. It has been sitting around for a few years it is now time for it to go away.

The previous owner managed to bend the deck down by two or three inches in the front left corner, so I had the deck straightened and then plated both sides at the point where the deck had bent. I’d like to claim that it is now straight and strong. With a few exceptions (see below) it is in pretty good shape.

The Good:
  • Purpose-built Thiokol tilt-bed snowcat trailer. 12’x8’ deck, 5k lb axle, pintle hitch.
  • New spindles, bearing, and brakes.
  • New wiring from the terminal block forward (terminal block, brake battery, break-away switch, connector cable).
  • New LED marker lights in all four corners (tail lights are still incandescent).
  • Includes pintle hitch for 2” receiver.
The Bad:
  • I don’t think the tires are original and they all still hold air, but they look ancient. They should all be replaced before any serious usage.

The Ugly:
  • There’s surface rust and the paint is tired.
  • The wiring at the back of the trailer is functional (i.e., everything works), but it has a lot of splices and repairs. Were I to keep the trailer long-term I’d want to take the time to finish the LED conversion and replace all the back-end wiring.
I’d like it gone, but I’m not desperate to see it leave. Current price is $2k and it is located in lovely Cottage Grove, Oregon.

Cool. I've got one that came with the WT Imp I bought this summer. Had the previous owner put on new tires before the journey home. Unfortunately one of the bearings took a dump on the way but managed to get home. Haven't yet pulled the wheel to check the damage...hopefully the spindle is still OK but it was pretty hot.
Minimal lights working, access to those recessed lights looks to be a bear. I ended up buying a $50 set of magnetic stick-on lights plugged in to my truck harness to be legally safe. Trailer brakes and parts I think are all there but non functional. Single axle is pushing it for the weight but works if you take it easy.
Anyway it got me home and off loading the cat was a fun experience. It really has to make only one more 50 mile trip up to my cabin next year after I've completely sorted out the cat.
