Tucker Diff Locker (Eaton E-locker

I am going to put a diff locker in my 1979 1642. I have used ARB before but thinking of using an Eaton E locker so I dont have to have a compressor and eas of install.

People that have used the Eatons: have they held up and worked well? I have used the ARB in several applications and never had any problems and have been happy with the operation. If people have good luck with the Eaton I will try that. I believe Blackfoot used one in Snowzilla....?

Can anyone confirm the axle spline count Tucker used without me taking the axles apart?

Also before someone comes and says it's a bad idea to install lockers I should say have a lot of experience with diff lockers in vehicles along with expierience with factory installed ARB lockers in the newer tuckers. I understand the limitations and the precautions necessary. I also understand the advantages of them, which is the reason I am going to install them.

Rule of thumb.. Motion is good.....

I had air lockers in the 48000 lb Eatons tandems in a Rock hauler (8 AXLE TRANSFER)
MOVING THE RIG IS A GOOD THING.....
Lock the interaxle diffy and lock each axle diffy....It would usually go.... If not.....you were where you should not be.....

Had one job in the snow that I needed to toss on the 3 railers in the back.....AND LOCK EVERYTHING......It went.....Steering was sketchy at times......
With the 18 ton rear tub locked in up front.....plenty of weight on the drivers...

In the snow there will be enough slippage to keep stuff happy and if you don't get BAT CHIT CRAZY....NO WORRIES..

We put E-Lockers in both Snowzilla and Thundercat. We haven't had to use them in Thundercat and Snowzilla is not finished....

I'm quite sure the axles are 30 spline, but my memory isn't as good as it once was.

Several years ago I had a conversation with Tucker's Jeff Godard. As I remember, he said Tucker had used both the ARB and the E-Locker. In really, really cold temperatures they had issues with the ARB air lines freezing. They sort-of preferred the E-Locker, but Eaton didn't offer one for the Dana 70 axle, so they used the ARB.

I also know the first generation Dana 60 E-Locker was a two-pinion design, whereas the ARB was a stronger four-pinion unit. Eaton subsequently redesigned the E-Locker and upgraded it to four pinions...along with a hefty price increase, of course.
