Track Repair Questions - Bombardier SV252

The tracks on my Skidozer SV252 were worn out, so I removed them and began repairs. I've removed all 888 nuts/bolts, and have straightened about 200 bent track guides. It's been a long few days of "blacksmithing". But I've got a few questions.

1) I need to replace the belting. New stuff is too expensive for my budget. I've found some nice, used conveyor belting really cheap. It's about 3/8" thick, but it's only 2-ply, unlike the original 3-ply. Will this stuff work, or must I go with 3-ply?

2) The splines are stripped between one of my middle flexitor axles and the axle arm. Boggie wrote:
it starts to wear the splines out. some people will end up welding the ends then. because the arms new are 500+ for the front ones and the flexators in the front are bigger than the rest. and run around 800 dollars

Do I understand correctly that a person can weld the flexitor axle and the arm together, and then replace both pieces when the flexitor wears out? Are new flexitor axles available, and where?

Thanks for any help.

I have some arms and flexitor shafts that I may be willing to part with also lots of new rear diff parts would need to know the shaft size to see if the ones I have are for front or secondary wheels

Hi Brian,

Thanks. It's the second wheel from the front, on the left side. The part numbers, per the book, are 114-0407-00 Flexitor shell, and 660-3024-00 Arm. What shaft dimension/s are you looking for?

If I can afford to fix it right, I'd prefer to do that.

I've done more searching, and found this info about the track belting. Boggie wrote earlier:
The ratings are 110,220,330 means per inch of width of the belt. 10 inch wide 220 can handle 2200 pounds of pull. on some of the big heavy machines we are building 900# ply belting. for most of all of the lighter snow cats three ply is enough. if you can not find belting. let us know we build for most cats.

It sounds like I need to hunt up some 3-ply for the SV252. I'd love to buy new belts from Boggie, just don't have the cash. I'm going to have to get by on the cheap. :ermm:

I know eventually, I'll need to make a bunch of holes. I measured the distance between grousers at 3.833" (3 & 13/16"), but I assume the track has stretched a little over 30+ years. Can anyone confirm my guess that the grousers should be spaced 3 & 3/4" apart?

Thanks for any info you can offer.

these are cut down tracks from a larger machine if you find right pitch maybe a cheaper option than rebuilding yours

Hi Dave,

Thanks for the input. I was able to confirm the track pitch at 3.875". I'm able to keep the original track guides and grousers, but I'm impressed at your modifications.

It's somewhat sobering to find all the problems as you work your way through an old machine.

I expect yours will be much prettier than mine will when I'm done. As F.L.Wright said: form follows function.

Looking at your track it looks like you have wider belt on the inside than on the outside. if so how does it handle or is the track centered on the wheels. Thanks Clair
