Thiokol 601 windshield glass

I know this is a huge longshot, but I need to replace the passenger side front windshield glass. I think I will need new gasket as well. I've never replaced automotive glass before and the only shop willing to attempt it, wanted my first born child plus cash. Anyone done this and have suggestions?

Search for the string trick for automotive glass. Works on most older style seals used in cars, and is quite straightforward to do. My brother and I removed and reinstalled the glass in his VW Type 3 years ago using this method, it worked great. Do you have a new seal?

We used the same gasket on our tight radius Tucker Kitten rear window With the help of Lisle 80420 self locking gasket tool- also from Amazon.

The info the troops are giving you is spot on....

I did a 40 foot Bus/motor home conversion years ago...I used the same type of seal setup....

The windows on that rig were curved and 6 panel type.

Get a squirt jug of "Fantastik" at the grocery store.....Makes things nice and slippery.....

The small windows in the cat will be easy to do.....

The tools shown are the Cats Azz....Makes this job really easy.

Put the joint of the lock strip at the bottom.....Then go around..
This will tend to keep water from leaking into the lock groove.

A good front view of the coach

Two top panels...The main windshields and the lower panels.

This one used a stainless steel band at the bottom of the main windshields to hold them in place

This was a two person job stacking all those panels in...

I can do it for or with you. ( ill be up for the rally 10/14 ) I have a 601 window here that should come out intact. I will just get a window cut at a later date.

unzip it with lots of soapy water. leave the gasket in and push the glass out. mark the top and inside, I get glass cut a lot and we can put it back in easy peasy or I will bring one up?

We used this, though I don't know that it's the best:

Hey BF Tucker,
Thanks for the Amazon link, I may go that route for my 1404 Imp since I'm having trouble connecting with Dan at Snowcat Services.
Question: It looks like that particular gasket from Trim-Lok is available only in the single lock, not the double lock that my old gasket is. Did that single lock work out OK for you?

It definitely worked....

If you use a little lubricant and everything goes smoothly, the double lock system is faster than the single lock. (We replaced the chrome lock strip on an older Chevrolet Blazer) The double lock style is easier to work with because you can use a tool like this to install the separate lock strip:

As I recall, the single lock stuff in corners was "less than fun".

If hauling your machine to a glass company is doable, having them install the glass might well be worth it. People who do it regularly do it fast, and they make it look so easy you think "I could have done that". Yeah, except they know which tools to use, and how much force you can get away with, etc, etc etc. There ARE tricks of the trade, and they know 'em. I (we) don't.

Looks like I'm stuck with single lock from this particular company anyway. No problem, I'll wait for a 90° day and soap her up real good. Here's the tool that Trim-Lok sells (or Amazon) for single lock installation. They even have a video making it look "so easy"!
