Thiokol 2100 Axle Shorten Project

Tucker people also love Thiokols contrary to popular belief.

Our snowmobile club is narrowing a 2100 from 10’ wide to 8’ wide for more trail maneuverability.

We had a stock 8’ axle to copy. The pros at Mitchell Differential in Shrewsbury MA are my go to for stuff like this.

Turns out there is enough meat further up the tapered shaft to cut and re key the axles. Some have cut and weld but this is by far the way to go.

Need to swap a bearing out and ready for install! Better than factory.

By re-key do you mean respline.

I always wondered if the shafts were thick enough to re cut the splines?

Or

Were you talking about the tucker axles. Which are tapered and keyed

Yup spline is fine. 14” back is what the math was to get enough taper back on these.

So I guess it depends on the narrowing length. We copied a short one and had just enough.

Other Thiokol was welded which has held up 5 grooming seasons so far.
