I'm looking to buy a new truck and I do a lot of off road driving where traditional chains (not cable chains) are necessary. I'm looking at the Chevy Trail Boss (Silverado 1500) but you can't chain it. Come to find out, you can't chain a lot of the newer trucks. Does anyone have a source to purchase chains that will work on the newer Silverado 1500 or similar GM truck or another solution that won't void the vehicle warranty? The tire size is 275/65R18 and I believe the clearance from the inside of the tire sidewall to suspension/steering components is 0.61 inches.

Newer trucks are not designed for tire chains. Kept my old truck for many years so I could put a good V bar design chain on it for access to my remote home when needed. The alternative which may void your warranty is wheel spacers to get the clearance needed to utilize chains. Best bet is an older truck that will accept tire chains........ I do not really like the wheel spacers but many people use them anyway for the "look."
From my research, you won’t be able to put standard chains on a late model truck without doing some kind of mod. Regarding the need to chain, if you ever find yourself running around the continental divide in winter, chasing elk, and pushing snow with your front bumper, you’ll know the answer. It’s just amazing to me they build and market off road vehicles but you can’t chain ‘em. Thanks for the responses.
