I thought about posting this awhile back but thought the volume related to the recall was small. On other forums, I've seen several replies from people all over that had peanut butter in their cabinet that has been recalled.

The product may be contaminated with salmonella.

On the lid, check to see if the code starts with 2111. If so, don't use it.

Full details HERE

For refund, I heard many stores will give you a refund or replacement by returning the bad product. The mfgr will also give a refund if you mail them back the lid.

Just for the heck of it, please post if you have a jar that's been affected. I'm curious how big this issue really is.

They are reporting here that it is in 3 states. IN,IL and KY. I had one of the jars, unopened. Mom told me last night that the stores are refunding regardless of where you bought the product.

A blurb from a report I found:
Distributed via the DPHHS Health Alert Network (HAN) System

"To date, CDC has identified 288 patients from 39 states with dates of onset ranging from August 1, 2006 to January 21, 2007. Thirty-one patients have been hospitalized and there have been no reported deaths. "

We got a recalled jar of it. My daughter had some of it (awhile back) but didn't get sick thank God. We still need to return it.

About a week ago, we purchased a 6 pound container at Sam's Club. Yesterday, my wife noticed an article in the paper about the problem. Our container has the 2111 code. It is unopened. I will be taking it back to Sam's Club on Monday or Tuesday.

We had a bad jar down here purchased at Walmart, do not remember when I ate some, but for about two weeks, had some unusual bodily functions. Called home and we had one there that my son had just eaten some of. Returned the one down here to Walmart, received the money without a question, they just looked at the code. It must be a widespread problem as the one up home was purchased in December and the one down here in January.

Found another one, small jar of Great Value creamy in the RV, purchased about 3 weeks ago, used enough for 2 pieces of peanut butter toast, no ill effects. Will take it back to WallyWorld this week.

My wife found an almost empty jar of the tainted stuff in the pantry. I'm feeling kinda poorly. Nothing a few million dollar settlement wouldn't cure!:puke1::yum:
Hutch

We have one full jar and one half eaten jar. I'm sure glad I don't like peanut butter :hide: . My wife took them back to Wal Mart and got a refund.
