New here as of today.I bought my imp about a month ago and tore into it immediately. The past owners had used it for moose hunting and it’s got the bumps and bruises to show, I started with the dash and wiring from there I rebuilt the bed to how I wanted it to be, hoping to use for winter camping, hunting and exploring up here. I plan to dive deeper into it later in the summer.

Have fun with the restoration. This is the first winter I've used mine after working on it for the better part of a year. Fire away with questions, I may be able to help and most certainly others with more knowledge on the forum
Before and after picts

I appreciate! it I’ll be asking all sorts of questions and reading through a lot on the forum. took it out for the first time for a good shake down run in the snow. It definitely has some carb issues when trying to wind her out 3rd and 4th on the c4 are unusable it stumbles and hesitates but that’s why I wanted to see what it does in open country.

Mine's a wide track 1404 built in 1975, probably the only significant difference from a 1401 is the engine but I'm not an expert.
I can't use anything other than 1st or 2nd in the transmission with the C4 in 1st, just can't handle low rpms. Idles perfect and runs fine but stumbles when feeding gas from a dead stop unless I'm over 2000 rpms which means starting out takes some clutch slipping in anything other than 1st gear up front. Primary/idle circuit or accelerator pump not delivering enough fuel is my guess. New plugs, new electronic ignition, new coil, new air filter, new fuel filter, valves and ignition timing adjusted.

Carb rebuild kit arriving Monday. My carb is a Solex 28/32 PDSIT-4. 1.7 liter Ford V4. If this doesn't fix things then I'll probably go with a Weber conversion.

1401,2,4 all have 1500 or 1700 v4 fords. In front of oc4 rear diffs.

1450 have straight 6 200 cuin fords with c4 transmissions in front of oc12 rear diffs

Both imps have controlled diffs that power both tracks

The solex carbs accelerator pumps plug easily and manage to run ok that way. Before you give up on the pic 33,34 make sure your accelerator pumps work. Those motors are amazing when the carbs work properly

Kinda been my thought all along, not enough 'squirt' from the accelerator pump for the initial pedal push to richen things up and get you going before the main circuit kicks in. Or, the pilot circuit is plugged and she only runs strong when on the main jet 2000+ rpms. If I feed gas too fast from idle it will bog down. To me that's a lean condition. Rebuild kit on the way, fingers crossed. Mines not a PIC 33/34, rather a 28/32 PDSIT-4, for what it's worth.

My accelerator pump was leaking like crazy by the time we loaded it back in the trailer.

It seems a big ridiculous but I was researching the holly single barrel sniper EFI kit. It isn’t cheap but something I’m interested in.

Yeah thought about that but if needed I'll just go with a Weber and tune it for my altitude. Have messed with Webers a long long time ago in the past on British cars. Pretty bullet proof, super easy to tune all circuits with jets all externally accessible. No computer, no electronics to fail.
