M113 or M114? The M114 was declared a failure as a APC. My son told how they used some in basic for target practice

the 114 was a smaller version of the 113 and had a rubber banded track with steel shoes they were a scout recon vehicle with a 327 chevy motor they looked small and cramped

Thanks for the info. I thought the FMC looked like steel tracks. Re M114, I understand they had even less capability when it came to mines than M113. I see the M113's are being upgraded and more useful as a result. I'd love to have a M113 or M114. I did see a Chieftan tank for sale on ebay, but too pricey for me. Also a GAZ armored personnel carrier.

the 113's have a pinned steel track soucey makes a full rubber endless track conversion for the 113 family the 114 and 116's had a segmented rubber belted track with steel shoes so if a track was damaged you only had to remove the damaged section and install the new one the 114 and 116 were much smaller about the same size as a 600 thiokolwith tracks about as wide they also had the torsion bar suspension of the moderen armorpioneered by walter christy in ww-2 and first used by the russians

the one problem with that ramped track on both ends is they don't cross ditches too well a buddy of mine has a 548 up here i won't tell you how manny times he has been high centered between the front and rear in a ditch
