Do we have Souls?

Dutch-NJ

New member
If this thread isn’t ignored, discussion could become interesting, maybe thought provoking, and possibly even controversial.

Anyway, I have a theory. But I’ll leave it go at that at this time.

Here are my questions:
1) Do we have Souls?
Next question:
2) Do we ALL have Souls?

I don't know but I'd like to know what your sig link is all about......... :)

No. A soul implies an existance of some kind other than the physical one we are experiencing right now.

I see no evidence for such an existance, and therefore no evidence for any such thing as a soul.

Not only do I not have "a soul" but I don't have much "soul" either. I have serious white-mans disease. Can't dance, can't play sports.

I have gotten involved in these discussions before and I think first you need to define what your definition of a "soul" is.

What about the "life-force" in each of us? When you die, where does that energy go that once powered your body? What about the energy force that powers an insect or a bird? When you squash that bug, what happend to the energy that once powered its instincts and mobility? Does your life-force energy belong to you alone, awaiting a time when you can reclaim it, or is it returned to the Earth, like water, to be reused by other, or future human beings?

If matter can neither be created nor destroyed as the theory suggests, then that life-force is still here somewhere, isn't it?

Think about it. Think about water. No new water has been created since the beginning of time, it is simply recycled into our circular ecosystem. That means we are drinking Moses' urine.

If God created man, who created God? Think about that for a while...but not too long...it could drive you mad!:smileywac

I don’t KNOW if I have a Soul or not. I believe I do, but that’s an unprovable matter of faith.

You could be right............. Who knows?

BTW - I am not regarded as a religious person.

That’s a fair request.

To me the soul is the immortal, non-physical, spiritual essence of a human being.

Can’t see a soul. Can’t prove a soul even exists. It’s strictly a matter of personal beliefs and faith.

“Life force.” “Energy.” Very interesting. I considered that type concept myself.

I’ve read that according to Hinduism a soul reincarnates and enters into many different bodies as explained in the Bhagavad Gita.

Instead of Moses’ urine, I thought of the expressions, “Pushing up daisies” and “You are what you eat.” Get the connection?

I believe in God, but that’s another unprovable matter of faith.

I was taught, “God always was and always will be.”

To think about it any more than that is like trying to find the beginning and end of a circle.

Hey guys, thanks for taking this thread seriously, and thanks for the honest posts.

I’ll explain where I’m going with this either tonight or tomorrow.

Then you’ll understand what kind of wacky ideas I have, and then you can jump all over me.

Ok - I will wait until then. :o

I'm interested in this as i believe we have body, soul, and spirit. Some people don't believe in what they can't see but you can't see the wind...you can see the results of the wind like trees and things moving but the wind itself is invisible.

Here’s my wacky theory.

I believe in both “Intelligent Design” (Creation) and the “Theory of Evolution”.

I don’t see where they are incompatible or mutually exclusive.

Strict evolutionists reject a Creator (God). Why? If the universe was a perfect vacuum, where did the very first atom come from to begin evolution?

If God is all powerful (I believe He is), why couldn’t God’s plan include evolution?

God is all powerful, so He could certainly have created the world in 6 days, just as the bible says.

But how long were the days during creation? If the earth was spinning half as fast on it’s axis, a day would be 48 hours long. Suppose the earth was spinning really slow and a day was 10000 years long?

God is all powerful, so He could grown the first tree in a split second. Why doesn’t God do that today? Why does God let every living thing grow?

For me, it’s hard to deny evolution. Science appears to have proven the world has been evolving for millions of years.

Fundamentalists seem to believe the earth is only 6000 years old. They could be right, but I don’t understand that.

Genesis 1:27 reads, “So God created man in His own image; in the image of God He created him; male and female He created them.”

How could you and I both be the image of God? You and I don’t look the same.

I interpret Genesis to mean that God is a spirit and our souls are the image of God.

It doesn’t matter whether we are male or female, tall or short, thin or fat, black or white. All our souls are the same.

Why couldn’t God have let Neanderthal, Cro-Magnon, and the rest evolve for millions of years.

When they evolved into Homo Sapien, why couldn’t God have said, 6000 years ago, “That’s Man” and given Man a soul in His image?

Isn’t a soul the only thing that separates us from all other animals?

***********************

Now here’s where I really get weird.

How do we know all Homo Sapiens have souls?

Wouldn’t lack of a soul account for some of the evil things some Homo Sapiens do?

Here’s the scary part. If a certain Homo Sapien didn’t have a soul, wouldn’t they just be another animal, with the rights of an animal?

How do we know all Homo Sapiens have souls?

Why is it that some people believe after a "dream", that they were at that dream before. Such as, General Patton. He firmly believed he dreamed of being a warrior in many "specific" battles going back to the crusades,,, Had nothing to do with his extensive historical readings... There are people who claim they had a dream, couldn't put two and two together, but somehow, through that dream, they were in another life time in their past...

Wow, heavy topic....... I'm gonna read allong a bit before I chime in...BTW, is this a "soul" topic or a "god" topic? Something else to think about, can they be separate??

You are right about the evolutionist theary...they have to have something to start with whereas God can create anything. From nothing comes something out of Gods mouth because he "spoke" it into existence.

But, beloved, be not ignorant of this one thing, that one day is with the Lord as a thousand years, and a thousand years as one day.--2 Peter 3:8 I don't believe the earth was created in six calender days as we think it.

God says there will always be a seed time and a harvest time. Everything growing is his nature.

What is evolving? people and animals still look the same. There seem to be lots of species that are extinct now thanks to man and probably certain disasters.

The earth was void and without form when God chose to create what is our world today, so the earth is much older but creation isn't. And it says God rested on the seventh day so that means he was done creating. The rest you have talked about i think has no bearing since God did rest and create no more after the six days. He chose to stop there. And yes we are in Gods image...with a soul and spirit like him. And when Jesus came in the flesh he looked like the rest of mankind.

When it comes to God, soul, creation, evolution, etc., how can there be a right or wrong answer? Who really knows for sure?

It wouldnt be called "Faith" If God was walking around right in front of us. He didnt create us to be little robots and praising him day in and day out without any thought. That would be meaningless to him. But if we have Faith (withouit having to see his physical being) and then praise him then that means everything to him!

I believe we were created in Gods image in that we are "self-aware" and have the capability to think, to control our own thought process and to act upon our thoughts, and to change our own behavior.

This ability separates us from the rest of the creatures on Earth and gives us our similarity to God. All other creatures are instinct driven, we alone are self-aware and thought driven.

This is not to imply that all people actually use their God-given ability to think.

More food for thought....

How many religions are there in the world toady?

Since(to my understanding) they all do not agree, who is right? So far, the beliefs spoken here appear to be all christian beliefs.. Dont they contradict some held by musslim, budist, jewish, etc...??
