Compressing the spring shock absorber on an older SW48 to replace a broken bolt.

In the top picture I'm using my ATV as a jacking point for the come along, the chain goes behind the rear wheel and attaches to the shock absorber rod at the bolt at the rod end. The bottom picture shows the rod end linkage eyelet and the bracket it has to align with, on the rear tandem wheel girder. By pulling the rod and compressing the spring in combination with jacking the front of the machine up with a farm jack, the two holes aligned and the new bolt was installed. Kind of a nightmare scenario to have that bolt break but this is how I fixed it. Jacking the front is essential to get this alignment to happen.

Easiest way I've found is remove the can, stretch it out with a come /along , or winch , and install a 3/4 cable clip. Put everything back together , then remove the clip.

I like that method for when I tear it apart in the spring. We keep getting hit with snow here so I’m trying to patch it up to continue to plow. I will remember your technique for the rebuild.
