2004 Jeep Grand Cherokee

Facebook marketplace strikes again. I saw this Jeep and tracks listed late this summer and thought it looked like a decent deal. The tracks have been hardly used, and the Jeep is in reasonable shape. These are the longer 136 in Rubitracks with the inch and a quarter lug. The southern end of the bighorns tend not to get an extreme amount of snow, so I think this will work well with a lot more comfort than the sno track. The question I have if anyone else has set up a tracked Jeep Cherokee this vehicle has the select track. It looks like in low range that the transfer case is not locked front and rear. It is more of a differential. In high range. There is a selection to lock the transfer case. One of my climbs is reasonably steep and I feel that is where I'm going to need low range with the locked transfer case. Has anyone experienced this? Should I be looking for a different vehicle to put the tracks on? Wondering if anybody has any opinion or experience. Thanks for any help you can provide.

In my researching, I have also found Jeeps wording to be quite contrary to what most people understand. I started surfing the Jeep forums and basically they're saying part-time means the differential is locked. Full-time means it's unlocked. So low part-time the differential in the transfer case is locked. Sounds backwards to me, but I found it in multiple spots now. I guess we'll see how it works this winter.

You are correct on your findings. I have a 05' diesel crd.
The engineer group that apporoved that wording never went four wheeling.
The vm motori makes gobs of power for the weight of the chassis. It has torn up a few front cv joints as in the ft setting the power can transfer through that open diff quite quickly. And when its locked in part time the torque has no where to go so the ujoints ( which are cv joints) get tore up.

Good luck. I am looking forward to your findings and honest reviews
