1990 Skidozer SV252 Perkins Diesel

Up for sale is a real nice Skidozer with 2579hrs but will go up a little as still using. It's got a Perkins 4cyl turbo diesel paired with an Allison C6 auto. Runs and shifts perfectly with no leaks. Double cab 4 door with ROPS. Everything works great. Tracks in good shape with foam filled tires. Could use a couple new tires but still working fine. Has a a big 6 way blade that is easily removed. Interior is mint with no rips or sign of wear. Has front and rear heat. Cab has no rust or damage but could use a exterior paint job. Passenger lower door window is cracked. This is easily towed and is a real work horse!
I've used it for plowing and backcountry skiing. Asking $23,000 USD

Hey Peak2Peak - I'm not very familiar with the Skidozer as I had my mind set on a Bombi or BR-100. I will do my homework but I'd like to ask some questions. You say it may need some tires, are they a standard size and readily available? Or are they a hard find, other options? How wide is it with the blade? How much does it weigh? I have a 5 lug dual axle trailer and wondering if it will be too heavy. My place is in MT and you're quite a haul for me but if the trailer can handle it, I can . . . do I dear say! Looks like it's in pretty good shape. Any extra parts? Manual? Are engine parts readily available? This would be my first tracker vehicle so I'm a bit green on all this stuff but learning. My son was a Tanker in the Army so he has experience and will be a great help. . . but hopefully no one will be shooting at us.

Hey Glen I'm happy to answer any questions . The Skidozer is very easy to drive and tow. It ways about 7,000 lbs with the blade maybe a little less and has a payload of 2,000 lbs . The blade is 8' wide same width as outside of tracks. The tires are hub mount style rim meaning there is no lug nuts it mounts with your bearing. The tires are readily available. They are foam filled so no air for it to go flat. Should be good for awhile. Drive sprockets have very little wear. The engine is a Perkins 4cyl turbo diesel and is bulletproof. It's in all kinds of small equipment and very easy to work on and get parts for if needed. I live at 9,500 ft and it's nice not messing with a carburetor on a gas engine. It has a block heater but fires up no problem if not plugged in. The cracked window should be replaceable from a glass or windshield replacement shop but it doesn't bother me so haven't replaced. Has fresh fluids and filters all available from Napa. I have a couple extra grouser for tracks no other extras though. It's very sold and dependable machine. Only thing is could use a paint job but doesn't bother me. or I've seen a couple of really awesome wrap jobs and you make it look like a tank ! It's not perfect but it's really solid reliable and fun machine.

Does your trailer have a data tag on it that shows the weight rating? Most 5-lug trailer axles are going to be 3500lb units, occasionally you'll find a 4000lb axle. For a 7k gross weight snowcat you'll want a 10k trailer, 6-lug axles tend to be in the 5200-7000lb rating range.
 
Yes Prado TDI makes a good point. Also keep in mind if you're trailer has fenders they typically are around 80" wide between fenders. The outside of tracks are 8' Or 96" top deck trailer that tilts is best suited for a cat. How ever ramps work on a fixed deck but also hook a winch line as a backup. If you're serious about it will bring it to the land fill scale on my trailer and weight it before you would make that kind of journey. My question is do you plan on trailering or parking at a cabin or property? If parking then delivering to you would be an option or I have a 2020 top deck 10K trailer that is 20' x 9.5' I could let go for reasonable price. There is a lot of factors when it comes to the snowcat but I'm happy to help figure out. It's part of fun !

Thanks for the responses. My trailer is a dual axle, 3500lb each and 83" between the rails. It would be totally maxed out and my Tacoma probably would be struggling pulling it anyway. I have no plans to take it off the property once there, so, Yes, it would just be for plowing the driveway and cruising as I am next to a 1.2 Mil Acre NF. I guess I have some more "figuring" out to do!

I am in the early negotiations of buying a Bombi but we shall see how that pans out. They are not easy to find, that's good and bad. So I am entertaining other machines although my budget is not as accommodating. I will hit you up if things don't work out on the Bombi with the possibility of having it delivered. That would solve some problems.

Well my property is in Darby, MT which is about 1-1/2 hrs south of Missoula. I would definitely be interested in what the shipping would be and what is needed on my end if anything.
 
FYI - From what I can tell the ability to DM someone is activated only after you've established yourself on the Forum. Something about after 12 messages?? From searching I see you are fairly new yourself so I'm sure we are both in the "too early to DM" stage.

I also found that you were looking for information about hydraulics. You mentioned you replaced the fluids and filters so I guess you got your answer . . . do you have a maintenance schedule? I understand manuals are hard to find but hope you had luck finding what needs to be done at the proper time intervals. What kind of diesel does it take? I know there are "different" diesels out there (#1, #2, Offroad, Biodiesel?) I've never had a diesel vehicle so that would be new as well.

I did receive a download of owners/maintenance manual
As far as diesel fuel it's had off road diesel mostly which is a untaxed fuel or winter diesel which is sold at the pump unless you live in Florida or southern states. I also use fuel additive from FPPF called polar power. It's the only thing I use and trust as a 30 year Diesel mechanic. Maintenance is very simple and not complicated. All of the filters are available and have NAPA # on them. I'll check into transportation.

Yeah, I tried hovering over a couple profiles and I don't see a PM option. Maybe the magic number is 15?
 
Looks like I'm in now! I was able to DM Peak2Peak. Guess the system was a little slow. Must be my lighting fast typing ability.
