1404 Imp gas mileage?

Hi All, I am replacing the original Imp 1404 gas tank on my restoration project. Does anyone know roughly what gas mileage these machines gets ? I know mileage can vary a lot. Any comments on your personal experienced would be much appreciated.

I think the original gas tank is about 10 gallons.

I budget about 2 gals per hour.

if I am grooming heavy or deep snow im closer to 3 gals per hour.

Miles is a tough one for me, As I have spent better part of an hour just benching a bunch of drifts to go 1/2 of a mile then been on wind swept farm field for the next couple of miles only to fight on the other end to get back down into a river valley....

on a side note, it seems like if I carry gas, i never use it.

My Imp has a 20 gallon tank, which I recently filled with 15 gallons, along with a bottle of Techron just because. I have no idea if I'll burn it all this winter, being my first time putting it to work. Planning on having a spare 2 gallon can on hand just in case. No gas gauge, just a home-made dip stick.

I have a 1402 Imp with a 30 hp V4 Wisconsin flat head. Not really a fuel efficient engine. We use it to get to our cabin from the end of a plowed road. It's 2 -1/2 miles up the hill and 2-1/2 down. It has a 10 gallon tank also. It uses about 1+ gallon for that round trip which takes about an hour. So about 4-5 miles per gallon at 5 mph and 2400 RPM. Worth every penny. I would think the OHV engine in the 1404 would do a little better.

I think my Ford V4 is rated at 82 horses according to the manual. I'll be using mine to occasionally plow the driveway to my cabin, maybe 150 feet. Possibly also about a quarter mile up to my driveway unless some kind soul does it. If I stay on top of it every couple weeks I should be able to keep full access open. All depends on what mother nature dumps this year...usually 30" sustained on the ground and I doubt my Imp will be able to handle much more than a foot at a time. It's all a grand experiment that will burn a lot of fuel. If plowing gets away from me, then I'll just have to "suffer" using it as a play toy for this boy!
