1202B fuel tank

My 1202B has a 55 gallon tank in the bed. I understand they came with an under seat fuel tank. I "think" they were around 30 gallons. Any insight on where to source one or a replacement fro this cat? I want to be able to utilize the full bed in the future and My tank leaks around the float gauge. It had been drilled for several sending units and nothing has worked, except the leaking...

The under seat tanks are about 20 gallons. I carry an extra 5 gal can because those side hills can get ya. Good looking machine.

Thanks guys. No I do not need 55 gallons. The farthest I have traveled is about 22 miles and had no issues with fuel capacity.
I may be looking for an aluminum fabricator in the area to cut down the tank I have, which has two baffles in it.
Andy, nice tank you have. Any reason you did not have it inside, under seat? I have camped in the back seat of mine and would like to free up the bed space. That is another reason for moving it inside. Were the tanks under the back seat or front?
Any links to find a tank?

Rock, i have had a few sprytes most of the earlier (A) models 170 and 200 cuin engines had the under passenger seat tank.

All of the later (C) models 300 ci had the much larger bed mounted tanks.

Maybe coincidence, maybe order-able option?

I have an A model tank laying in the todo someday pile. I could measure and photograph it if needed

redsqurl,
Picture would be great if you don't mind. Mine has the 220ci motor. As for the seats, they are mounted on some metal brackets which I think are aftermarket / homemade as my head hits the roof on occasion. Do you know if the seat mounted to the original fuel tank on your cats?
Thanks,
ra

Have you considered a 10" bed extension, or maybe a stake pocket extension for the times you need more cargo room? The under seat tank is mounted under and fastens to the seat bracket (which bolts from the engine cowl to the body tub) and will have an effect on your seat height. In this picture you can make out a 1" square tubing cab riser and a pretty thin seat I put in because of height issues. A-Models and early B's used fiberglass seats over the gas tank that have no cushion.

mtncrawler,
Thanks for the info and photos. I had to redo the bed last summer as it was bent a bit from prior owner. At the time, I extended the bed so it terminates right about at the end of the tracks. My cowl does not extend to the rear of the front seats as yours does. Looks like I may have to stay with the bed mounted tank or figure something out for a undermount under the rear seat. I notice the fuel filler is below the door, Mine has full size doors so that is also a no go at this point. Once I get the full tank figured out, I hope to work on the doors. I want to do two piece full size doors, think Jeep style. Also would like to be able to remove the doors, either the top portion of the whole door for those nice spring Skiing days
I guess it is back to the drawing board for me.
Thanks for the input!

You sure its a B?

Im guessing a 4spd manual?

The taller doors make me wonder if its a C

Yeah it is a B model. Somewhere along the line New doors were fabed up for it. They are steel diamond plate and very heavy! Papers say it is the NP and yes a 4 speed transmission. This cat was beat pretty bad when I got it and I have learned a lot along the way. It is getting close to being somewhat maintenance free. Well not maintenance free but getting all the issues taken care of.

I had in-cab tanks on my 1402 IMP, 1201 Spryte and 210 Spryte. They were hard to fill at times and ALWAYS filled the cab with fumes. I relocated to bed mounted tanks on all of them. Gained more capacity and no more fumes! With both my Spryte models gaining in-cab storage under the seats was a big plus too. The IMP fuel tank was under the floor so no extra storage gained.
If you are dead set on clearing the deck then you could investigate doing an under-deck option like the IMP's had. It was in the drive shaft tunnel. could just flush the filler neck with the flatbed
