WTS: ST-4B 1968 Trac-Master #0922 aka the "FBI Rig"

I’m putting my 1968 ST-4B Trac-Master up for sale. Chassis number #0922. The sales price includes the Trac-Master, a large lot of spare parts and a custom-made deck-over 14’ double axel trailer with electric brakes. Asking price for the entire package is $32,000.

This Trac-Master is also known as the “FBI Rig” and has been discussed before on the forum. It was originally owned by the Bonneville Power Administration in Hazel Dell, WA. The FBI commandeered the machine from BPA during the search for D.B. Cooper after he hijacked a plane out of Portland heading for Seattle. Supposedly the FBI used the machine to search for Cooper, but he was never found. After a great long while, Lyndon of Snow-Trac and ff fame acquired the machine and completely restored it. Here is Lyndon's original thread on the FBI Rig: https://www.forumsforums.com/threads/db-cooper-and-the-fbi-track-master.8113/

All of that is interesting history and the machine is still in outstanding condition. I’ve owned it now for 18 years and it’s time to let it go to a new owner that can enjoy it as much as I have. It only has one minor flaw: the seals on the variator output shafts leak a little bit of ear oil. They will have to be replaced eventually.

This is undoubtedly one of the premier Trac-Master in existence. Everything works on it, even the flashing indicator lamp on the Porsche turn signal switch. It still has rare OEM equipment such as the ice scrapers on the drive sprocket drums, original horn button that still beeps and speedometer that still works! The brakes AND the parking-brake are 100% functional.

It still has the original VW 126A industrial engine in it. The original hour meter still works and shows 415 running hours. The odometer/speedometer is original and still works and shows 923 Miles. The rear tires on the machine are solid filled.

I just finished replacing the track belting and rebuilding the tracks. The new two-ply belting was sourced, custom cut and punched by Fall Line in Reno, NV. All the grousers and wheel guides were stripped, blasted, phosphated, primped and painted gloss black. The grouser bolts and nyloc nuts are all new 304 stainless steel hardware. The tracks are 100% now. Those with a keen eye will notice that the tracks are asymmetrical. The BPA cut them down 3” on the outside edge to get the machine’s overall width under the 8’-6” width limit for trailering.

Also has a new Optima Red starting battery.

The spare-part lot has been accumulating for the last 18 years. It includes items like a set of four NOS ST-30A bronze drive sprockets, extra NOS Trelleborg T522 400x100 tires, ST-25 variator brackets, Trelleborg, Gates and Goodyear variator belts, NOS Trelleborg 600x100 tires on 6 bolt wheels, NOS 400x100 boogie wheels, extra grousers, wheel guides and on and on. Too numerous to list here. Serious buyers can request a spart parts inventory list via private message. Also included are many original publications like owner’s manuals, brochures , VW industrial engine manuals and VW magazines that feature the Snow-Trac.

This rare stash of spare parts will NOT be unbundled from the sale of the whole package.

Specs on the Aurora Trailers custom-made trailer are:

Deck size: 14’-1.5” x 8’-6” with 28” open center section and full length 3” steel angle curbs to keep load centered on trailer.
Axels: dual 3500# with electric brakes
GVW 7000#
Decking material: #9 ¾” raised expanded metal
Ramps: 24” X 75” Steel channel and angle with replaceable wood pads (to keep snowcat from skittering on ramps)
Hitch: 2-5/16” ball, height to top of ball: 19”
Deck height: 29”
Tongue length: 40”
Breakaway safety device with battery to activate brakes if hitch disconnects from tow vehicle.
Spare tire and mounting bracket

The machine is currently located in Anchorage, Alaska 99502. Logistics and shipping expenses will be the responsibility of the new lucky owner. The Trac-Master will be available mid to late December or possibly earlier by special arrangement.

Very nice pictures, history and engagement of you. This one have had lots of love through the years and will hopefully earn more. Can you send med a picture of the number shield with 922, please. Also nice to know that Lyndon had an part in it`s history.

Tele, you need to grab a photo of the embossed seats, I have seen a few snow tracs and have never seen that in any other cat.

Here are some pics of the original seat upholstery embossed with the Westerasmaskiner logo. Each seat cushion has 2 of them and each seat back has 2 of them also. So all three seats have a total of 12 of the original embossed "W" logos on them. That is something I not seen before either.
