…………. reassembled the ''output'' yolk , and the ''step/spacer'' for the ''intermediate'' shaft to Mate up to. set eng./trans. assy. into chassis , far enough so oil pan could be removed. for two reasons; engine , somewhere along the line as to getting here, had been set down on the drain plug of pan, causing an upward dent of the bottom of the pan & a leak also. and to check the lower end of engine; crank brgs., oil pump, pick-up , deposits in pan, etc...… with the dent, it restricts two quarts of oil not to fully drain out . emptied pan, and found multiple types of metal debris . oil pump pick up is a straight tube with screen, which goes to the bottom of the pan, within a 1/4'' . removed a couple main brg. caps ; found them in good shape, and the date on ''inserts'' are five years newer than the eng. mfg. date. so those have been replaced at some point. now the rods , not so much, no date on insert. also ''roached'' , they weren't going to go much further. ''displaced & heat damaged'' . (STD.). on all. will have to ''polish'' , & plasti-gauge new rod inserts to determine condition of rod journals. ………………..
