story 1

it starts in August of 1970, a well worn man, young by years but lived a hard life, who had seen better days drives up to the factory office of the snow cat manufacture on what was an unusually cool dank day, the mist was so heavy and he needed the windshield wipers to see the road, and the slippery road was a bit much for his Cuda', bit over powered and he did know how to use the right hand pedal, might say he was a street racer, truth is he was a world renown Olympic ski racer........

story 1 continues

What is this? Some old time serial where you have to wait a week for each new episode?

I like the Greek pizza Nikos. .

The events, the personal sacrifices, this is almost too much to take in all at once.
Please try to spread it out some.

It's going to be like waiting for comic books as a kid to see what happens next! One month at a time!

This might be more like waiting for the next eclipse, comet, maybe a leap year if we are lucky!

getting back to the story,

as he stood at the front door, he ran his hands through his hair, adjusted his pants and buttoned up his shirt, for him this was his best effort to look like decent, he could hear his mothers voice about first impressions...

as he opens the front door, he was welcomed by the front office receptionist, they exchanged pleasantries and he said he had appointment, of which, he was late for, very late, he was asked to take a seat. As he sat down, he started to look about the office, and thought to himself he was very much over dressed and quietly chuckled to himself.

yup, he was late for his appointment, so much so, that, after an hour of sitting in the front office, he was told, he would not able to meet with the president of the company, this was something he very much was not accustom too, he was told he could make another appointment or meet with the newly hired salesman, it had been a long drive from Colorado, not want he wanted to hear.

Did they not know who he was, there was even three different ski magazines with his photo on the cover sitting on the table next to his chair, and yet, no one seemed to recognize him.

He took was trying to figure out why...

our well known olympic skier had pushed his luck and knew he wasn't going to meet with the company president today, and with no plans to stay the night.

feeling the need for a drink to think out his next move, his plans for the snow cat was pretty well set and really needed it, if he was going to get uninterrupted training time on the mountain, he remembered the cats at Timberline Lodge, used up on the upper part of the mountain.

He told the receptionist that he would get back to her, headed for the door and his Cuda'...

as he fired up the cuda', he thought to himself, screw this and back up the car and started to drive off, mashing the pedal, lighting up the rear tires, getting rubber in all four gears, nearly hitting a hundred miles an hour pretty dang fast...

headed out of town with no plans, to ever to come back, and would buy a snow cat from a different manufacture. now, his thoughts turned to finding a bar...

seemed like he hadn't driven very far when he found Grumpy's Goat bar, truth is, it was nearly 50 miles down the road and just outside of the neighboring town. As he pulled in, he noticed quite a few pickups in the lot, and a Shelby Mustang, he hated anyone that owned a Shelby, his former fiancée left him for some SOB that had a one, lots of unresolved feelings were bubbling up at this moment, he was thinking might not be best to go in, he just sat there for what seemed to be an hour and finally the need for a drink won out and headed inside.

damn, there was a goat wandering around inside, the goat seemed to know everyone in the place and was known to have a beer once in a while.

it was a true western seedy bar, as he found a seat at the bar, the gal behind the bar popped opened a Coors and handed to him, smiled and went about her business, wow, never seen that move before and thought they must have met before, the smile was familiar, Coors was his beer of choice.

He settled into his seat and knocked back the beer quickly, got to thinking about a Shelby in this part of the country, and who in the hell in this bar owned it?

the gal behind the bar seemed to pay no attention to our 'snow cat seeking world renowned Olympic skier', matter of fact, no one noticed that he was not from around there,

she kept the Coors coming...with prefect timing

he been there about an hour, still trying to read the room, more importantly, who owned the Shebly, the couple of guys he chatted with had no idea, everyone in the bar looked to be the pickup truck type, except the strange guy in the corner, everyone seemed to know him, but nothing about him, some say he was from the east coast and living on a trust fund, others thought he was a some kind drop out over educated college professor, everyone agreed that some day, everyone would be reading about him in the news papers, mike was writing his snow cat manifesto...

the gal behind bar had really got to him, he was very sure, she knew him, and for all the love and money in the world, he was sure he should know her, but could not place her and yet, that smile, looked so familiar. By now, it was getting late and there were only a couple folks left in Grumpy's goat bar, and even the goat had fallen asleep on top of the bar.

He was ready to leave and wanted to settle up for the beer and just like the Coors that always seemed to show up at the right moment, there she was, with his check, now, he had met so many girls over the years and never had a problem talking to the opposite sex, this time was different, he knew that smile, just as he tried for the third time to say something, she called him by name and says it has been fun, cuz, she knew he did not recognize her...

after what seemed to an eternity, he said, okay, I know the smile, but i do not remember you.

story teller: bet I know what you guys are saying right now, well you are wrong!

she stops him right there, and tells him, yes, she does know him and they had met, it had been a few years ago, and she was still in high school and his ski racing career had just begun and was dating her sister (former fiancee), and yes, she let him know how stupid her sister had been, by now, his mind was racing with questions, but the first one out of his mouth was, who's Shelby is it, she laughed, it is mine, I won it in a card game with her sisters ex. yup they were not together...

Karma is wonderful, he thought.

now it was late, and he was damn tired, long day and all, and she needed to kick Mike and his manifesto out of the bar, close up and head home, she suggested that he could stay in the up stairs apartment and they could meet up in the morning for a late breakfast, catch up on life. it had been 5 years since she had last seen him

yup, she owned the bar...and mike was her husband

the morning came much too soon, cuz, of the goat, yup, snored all night long, further, pretty dang grumpy in the morning.

thinking that he needed to get going, didn't think there was any good reason to hang around for breakfast and making small chat, and wasn't too interested in reliving the past, he decided to head out...

at least he was kind enough to leave a note and say thanks for the room and it was great to solve the shelby mystery.

started to look for his keys, weren't in his pockets nor in his coat, he pretty looked much everywhere in the bar, then he thought, might be in the Cuda, as he opened the door, he could see his car wasn't there, now he was getting pretty mad, which he was famous for and his bad attitude along with throwing the first punch. Matter of fact his wallet was gone too

okay, what the hell was going on, had he been tricked into staying only to have his wallet and car stolen?

as those thoughts raced faster and faster through his mind, he could hear, what he thought was his cuda, what the? standing in the parking lot he could now see, it was his car and Brenda was driving, she felt pretty safe in thinking he would not hit a girl...well he has having none of this and fully intended to KO her, all he could see was that smile as she popped out and greeted him with a big old howdy, no punches were thrown and he quickly calmed down as they headed back inside.

she was quick to say, she thought he would take off before she got back and the best way to keep him there was simply to take the car, and yup, he said, you are right... pretty much ended that conversation right there, she remember him all too well, Brenda started to get out stuff to make breakfast, along asking more questions than he was willing to answer, despite being in his late twenties still acted like a 17 year old boy with raging hormones and all the attitude that goes with it.

he did finally start to open up and talk about things and why he was in these parts trying to buy a snow cat and how he was going to use it up on the bear tooth pass, top of the world, Warren Miller had told him about a glacier that was great to train on during the summer, much like on mt hood at timberline was.

hey guys, here's where the snow cat enters the story, you thought I would never get there? huh?

and yes, there is nine stories to this snow cat

It’s because that cat nip isn’t legal in NH like surrounding territories.

Looks like the story was torpedoed from down under?

that makes 2, that wants more of the story, I am flattered, guess I could...but is really boring

as they were making small chat, the smell of bacon really caught his attention, he was hungry, he looked at his watch and understood instantly why he felt so hungry,

and in walks Mike
