Do you ever go back to take a peek to see what it's like now?
The place I lived in was a decent sized house, built circa 1900 on what was a show farm until around 1930. Location is awesome.
Because of the location, newer owners after we moved out have made many additions and improvements to the house effectively tripling its size.
I saw it listed on realtor.com about a decade ago. Going through the pics, I only recognized about 20% of the rooms.

WOW, I just did, on Zillow! My parents bought that house in 1976, it was new, 1400 square feet, three bedroom one bath! A beautiful wooded lot, two houses across the street, fairly remote. ALL the trees are now gone and there are houses all around it. The beautiful hardwood floors look great still. They added a bathroom. I was 8 years old when they bought it, Mom and Dad sold it to someone they knew in 1991. It sold last in 2011. My parents bought it for 34,000$, sold it for $120,000. Now it's Zesimate us 500,000, 😮. Some things changed, some didn't, neat to see it, thanks Zoom!!

Have checked on my childhood home numerous times over the years.

Today, most of the large trees are gone on the property, the house and yard look like crap.

Sad.

Parents bought the house for $40k in 1960, sold it for $140k in 1969. Now listed for almost $600k

Just for the fun of it, I also just looked up my previous home (sold it in the mid-90's). It looks close to the same but it's price/value has tripled.

Actually, I've been looking at my current properties. For the most part, Realtor.com, Zillow & Redfin all have current values completely wrong so I'm not trusting any sites for what they think current value is.

It looks so bedraggled.

When I was little, it was a very light mint green with white trim, black shutters and doors. The porch was open, the yard maintained.

Those trees obscuring the porch werent there, neither was that wood rail on the steps going down to the street. Garage wasnt there.

My father planted the massive pines at the back property line.

I considered buying it in the past when it came up for sale, but didnt. I believe it is currently vacant but still shows on the tax rolls.

Also, the appraised value is, IMO, highway freaking robbery considering the semi impoverished village and county its in.

Our house was sold after I left. I was out of state when it went for sale so I didn't even know it would be the last time I walked out the door. There was a fire several years after my parents sold it. The new owners rebuilt, but clearly not the same house.

I bought property next door to it that we still have so I still see the back lawn. The trees we planted as kids are huge now.

Below is when I lived there. You can see some of the cattle that worked us endlessly...
Built in 1856 by slave labor, complete with secret-passages and 8-ghosts:eek:, my next-older brother inherited it and the 340 acres.

Haven't been back in 10-12 years. About tore the front gate off when I left and finally got my freedom!!:D

I have actually been to two of my childhood homes, my great grandmother's house where I was born, and my parents house, which my sister still owns. My niece still lives in the house where I grew up. My sister and BIL have done a nice job remodeling it, and the neighborhood is still pretty good.

In the house where we previously lived, a man died. Never knew the circumstances but it was believed by others he haunted it.

One night I was in bed and had an experience with a spirit of some kind. I was home alone at the time. It was very frightening but the fright was quickly replaced by rage. Rage that this evil thing was trying to terrify me in my own home. Even thinking about it now I recall clearly my fury. I jumped out of bed and screamed at it, compelling it to leave in the name of Jesus Christ.

It immediately receded down the hallway and out of the house. It never returned.

Where we are now, we have two small houses. One built in 1856 or 57, the other built probably in the teens or 20s and moved in beside this house in the 40s. I know a couple people died in the house we currently occupy, and hubbys aunt died rather wretchedly, alone, in the other.

Both houses are peaceful and quiet. And they will stay that way.

Firat a two-bedroom cottage one block from Kinloch in Ferguson MO. About $8K at the time
Later a three-bedroom ranch but still in Ferguson MO. About $16.5K at that time.
Neither is worth much over $100 K today.
All 21 years of my youth.
Then, I met Crumpy.
Everything changed.

We lived in a two story three bedroom in Bolingbroke IL 7 years that was Definity haunted.
Paid $24.5K & sold 7 years later for twice that.

We now live in a 3-bedroom ranch that was a brand-new build but burned out to a 100% loss.
WE paid $19.6k for the wreck and rebuilt it.
Now worth over $300K.
Modest yes.
We like it.
