It is 24%F outside right now. 3:30 PM CST.
Sunny with a light breeze.
The green house is at 85% F despite a fan blowing its solar heated air into the house.
The Furnace shut down for the first time in three days. It has cycled from low to high without a rest since Tuesday.
My house was originally 1,550 Square feet. It now approaches 3,000 Square feet. We are on our third furnace. Same size furnace as original, but the newest is a variable speed, & more efficient.
Every remodeled room has upgraded insulation. The master bedroom is so well insulated we had to close off the heat vent when it was -1%F outside. When I finish the solarium on the back porch, it will be well insulated. Currently it is not because the window walls were built for a three-season room. They are, in fact, removable during summer months.
That changes this coming summer. Hopefully.
Back in '77 when we flipped this house, my FIL installed four single pane windows. This because of our tight budget. I never replaced them with thermal-pane using storm windows every change of the season. It will be about two grand to replace them with the best thermal pane. In the last 50 years, I likely spent more than that on gas because they leak so much heat.
Budget allowing, that also changes this summer.
