What are you drinking tonight?

Pretty busy day. 2 mile walk before breakfast, then off to the garden to pick more than I expected, the tomatoes and peppers are producing like crazy. Into the pool for a short dip, but mainly to do maintenance stuff. Then off to the fencing club for a double session of Epee, first was Youth (ages 6 to 12) followed by a second session of Epee with ages 13 to Adults. I've been coaching 2 young coaches on how to coach. Did a review after both sessions. Home just about 9:15pm.

As for the drink tonight. Bullitt Rye. It's quite good. Rarely do I buy a second bottle of anything other than Makers Mark . . . and lately Jim Beam 7 year. But Bullitt Rye is good and cheap. $27-28 per bottle. Quite tasty. A hit of peppery spice. I recommend.
 
My budget Scotch is Old Smuggler. My cheapskate SIL gave me a bottle for Christmas a few years back. I didn't hold out much hope for it, but when I finally got round to trying it, it wasn't too bad. It's a blend and it has a little different taste but it is very drinkable and pretty smoothe for its price point. I think that it's under $20 a bottle.

I was in the store recently, looking for Buffalo Trace https://www.buffalotrace.com/ but the owner couldn't find it anywhere although is inventory said he had some.
Then I'm looking at Bullitt and Whistle Pig. Wasn't sure about the Bullitt so I went with Whistle Pig. Glad to hear a nice review on the Bullitt as it's a bit more "cost effective". ;)
 
Funny on the Old Smuggler. I've had a bottle for decades never opened it. Opened it up a few weeks ago when I was doing a scotch tasting for the sons of my neighbor. I figured I'd start out with the garbage, the Old Smuggler.
Surprise! Not too bad. I think better than the Chivas. The young guys couldn't handle the peaty Ardbegs nor the Lagavulin nor the Laphroig. They liked the Glenmorange and Glenfidich.

We had bad storm, took out power for 95% of the county. I lent a spare generator to friend who lives alone, is 73, and never faced a 10 day power failure. He has been overly thankful.

Brought me 3 bottles as a thank you for lending him the generator.

I had to ice down the Benchmark, generally I drink my bourbon neat, but damn, 125 proof is like drinking fire. With a little ice, partially melted, it was very smooth.

You picked two of my favorites.
Macallan seems to be more popular and more readily available but it costs more than the two mentioned and honestly, it isn't worth the premium. It's good but really no better than the two mentioned. It's sold on the premise that it costs more so it has to be better, and I don't think that's the case.
