What are you doing today, II

Trip to town for errands… got a couple coat hooks at Ace hardware. I need to re-caulk my shower. The old caulk is looking grungy so I got a couple of tubes of white kitchen and bath caulk while there.

Stopped at Harbor freight and got a 50piece SAE zerk assortment and a 32 piece metric assortment. Went ahead and got 2 sets for my cousin also, seems lately I’m always pestering him for something. Don’t want to be a nuisance.

Got lunch at the chinese place then a few groceries. Had a couple more stops to make… I’m worn out. No plans but dinner and tv later.
 
Still no water. The fuel pressure seems to be within specs. The generator will start, run smooth up to 3300 rpm, then die. Put a new regulator on the tank. I'll call the Winco service department in the morning. We'll go to town tonight and take showers at the gas station. Had to turn all the stock out so they could get water at the pond.

Propane is convenient, but is it expencive to run over a diesel generator? Is the regulator on your generator icing up? Generally that what causes an engine that runs on propane to run for a while then quit, only to re start after sitting and then do the same thing, on a forklift the cooling water passes thru the regulator to prevent that.

Recently, I was contemplating how lucky I have been that my 2013 Jeep Patriot has so little rust on it. (On a clear night in Michigan, you can HEAR a Jeep rust).

Look at THAT,......... I FOUND SOME!!! Eaten right through the subframe that holds all my rear control arms together.

New subframe was only $130.00 on eBay. Now that I got it off, I see that I need control arms as well. That is another $58.00.

Repairs are surprisingly inexpensive. (And the mosquitoes are getting an all-you-can-eat buffet, as well).

Fun fun fun. :)

This generator has been running fine since 2021 without an issue, except for now. The tank ran out of fuel on Sunday. It was filled on Monday, and that's when the problem started. I have a 12kw Perkins diesel that I use for the backup at the house for our solar system. I went with propane for the well pump generator because I could plumb it to a 500 gallon tank, plus it's also plumbed to a heater inside the pump house. The well pump is over a quarter mile from the house.
The only issue here is that someone dropped the ball and didn't refill the tank when I ordered it a month ago.

Crap!! So we have like 1 ice storm a year, sometimes deadly and some years a few icy hell incidents. So the Texas way of doing roads....brine the roads the week before it happens 🙄🙄🙄😕!! It doesn't work, never will!! I just stay home, my vacation!

Yall need to make some poor mans rust proofing. Easy to make… need a) garden sprayer b) used motor oil c) mineral spirits or better yet kerosene. Thin the oil with the kerosene just enough so it can be applied with the garden sprayer.

Spray the underside of your vehicle. Try not to get any on the exhaust system. If you do it’ll smoke like he** when the engine/exhaust gets hot.

Funny, I learned this when I lived in West Virginia. Gave it a try one fall… of course some of it drips on the muffler/exhaust pipes. I happened to live about 2 miles from the volunteer fire station. I knew those guys hung out at the station on Saturday afternoons, usually sat out front shooting the breeze… just enough time for my exhaust to get hot!

I took off for the station, whipped into the parking as smoke began rolling out from under my truck!!! I’ve never seen people jumping and running so fast to get fire extinguishers!!! Didn't need them thankfully, just a lot of smoke.

Everyone had a good laugh except the chief!!! He actually got mad!!! Said “I should bill you!”. I said “For what? Having to get off your fat backside and run 20ft?” :ROFLMAO::ROFLMAO: I donated $10 to the collection box anyway. Told them it was worth it just to watch them run! :ROFLMAO:

Anyway… it’ll last through winter. Does a pretty good job. Have to re-apply each fall.

Made a cake (chocolate-coffee) with white buttercream frosting for Church tonight.

This morning, I have walked.
I have walked and made some cute mini pies for tonight.
Have to take DH to VA clinic follow up from hospital stay, this afternoon.
Then prayer meeting tonight.
 
Started bush hogging today. Went down the big hill by the south fence line. I’d only been working about 15min when I got the Massey Ferguson stuck! Crap!!! Cow paths go down that hill. With sandy soil those paths turn into small gullies. How fast depends on rain. If they get deep the cows will make a new path parallel to the first one. They fill in over time. I help the process by tossing dead tree limbs and brush into them.

Anyway, today I was crossing several small gullies. Rough ground but was in 2nd gear, just crawling along. I didn’t see a deep hole in one of those gullies, covered with grass, weeds and small brush. Right front wheel dropped in the hole, deep, maybe 30”, front axle was on the ground. Still had a chance to get out by turning hard right down the hill and power my way out. Thats when the left front wheel dropped into a different hole. Now the front axle is sitting on the ground between two holes. :mad:

I was stuck, no getting out without another tractor. My old ford 2000 didn’t have a chance of pulling the Massey out, didn’t even try. I’m here alone, no one to drive the other tractor anyway.

Called my cousin… he was cutting hay in the next county over. Can’t get to it today but can bring over one of his big John Deere tractors in the morning. His small feed tractor is a JD 5115m, 110hp range. Plenty of power to drag my Massey out of that hole.

The good news…. I’m finally getting ahead of all the perillia growing around and in some of the pastures. Last year I bush hogged all of it before it went to seed. That cut the over all amount in half that’s growing this year. Couple more years and it’ll be almost non-existent.

Doing piddling chores at home now. No plans but dinner and tv later.

I just took another generator down to the pump house that should run the well pump. It won't be automatic, but at least we'll have water. The problem is, the electrician put the wrong plug on the cord and can't use it. I'll go down south tomorrow and see if I can find the right plug. This old generator was the original one that I used on the well pump about 6 years ago.
I'm picking up generator for the camp trailer tomorrow anyway.

Rolled out the green garbage can and parked it precisely, (always do that so I can tell when it is dumped since their robot arms put it back down almost in the same spot)...
And I got the mail.

I ended working on my generator. Been meaning to change the oil all summer. Got the oil changed and was cleaning up. The puppy ran off with my 13mm socket!!! He usually tries to run off with rags or paper, anything I lay down for a moment. First time he upped his game to tools. He actually ran off with two sockets, found one but I never did find the 13mm, little jerk! He probably swallowed it. Checked amazon... they had a craftsman 13mm short for a 3/8ths drive. Gonna cost me $6.
 
At the work cabin, did layout and trimmed the plate that bolts to the roof for the stove pipe penetration, then cut stainless angle iron for the top perimeter of the plate and flat bar for under the roof in the cabin, the roof penetration assembly will be sandwiched along with the 3/4” plywood and metal roof, all thru bolted with 20-1/4”x1-1/2 stainless bolts and nuts, that’s 60 holes drilled in stainless with a hand drill, shit job, boss is an asshole, after that’s in I will have the data points to fabricate the rest of the system in the shop when I return home. Pictures when I return.
