What are you doing today, II

Busy work day for me! I have an office building I clean on Sundays. I have residential job after that. More storm clean up later with Hubby, there are so many big trees down it will take us a while. Everything is getting cut into future firewood. Having a couple of beers on the float chair in the pool later!

I made it to camp yesterday and got everything done then spent the afternoon on the deck building a new fire table. Took the dog for a walk. Sat around the fire relaxing playing guitar for a few hrs. Met up with some camp friends. I was awoken at 5am by a train as the rail line runs beside the campground. Home by 730 and now enjoying the sunshine on the deck with my wife sitting in the hot tub with no plans for the rest of the day.20260502_141712.jpg05f4a132-ee22-4e90-bc51-cf6c9ad70867.jpg20260502_204855.jpg

Doing some weed eating, but the crappy Stihl .08 line kept on breaking. Found an old spool of some Shakespeare square line in the garden shed, and it's working great. Go figure. Gonna try to get some mowing in, but it's getting late. Not feeling 100% today after dancing the night away in my Kermit shirt last night, lol. Wifey and I did have a great time with good friends though.

Got all the cattle moved in to the corral this morning to start their deworming treatment. I re-wired the lights in the chicken coop and worked on several other small projects. I need to make a list of materials for repairing the damage in the working corral. I'm planing on branding next week. There's a couple posts that I'll replace with railroad ties. I have a barrel of used motor oil and diesel that I'm soaking fence posts in. Even the pressure treated posts only last about 4 years here. I'm hoping that I'll get a few more years out of them if they're soaked in oil. Last night I used my tractor to dig some post holes, but could only go down about a foot and a half. I need to go down 3 feet. I'll chip away at them tonight, but first I'll start mowing the orchard. Several of the posts for the berries and grapes need to be replaced too.

Re: fence posts

I never tried but I saw a video where the bottom end was put it a platic bag before placed in the hole. Filled bottom of bag with oil. Back fill around the bag. Top off with oil the top. Seems like it would work.

Sounds like it would work. But I can't generate enough oil for all my posts. Right now I'm only soaking maybe 50 of my smaller line posts. How would you keep the oil in the bags when tamping the dirt around the post? I'm setting my corner posts in concrete, even the rail road ties.

I do use metal posts, by the thousands. But my fence lines are so long that I need a wood post between about 50 or so T posts. Especially on some of these steep slopes here, the T post all end up leaning down hill.
Imagine if you will a metal fence post that is adjustable...

As the hillside moves, adjust the posts?

Probably cost prohibited maybe?

We have red clay here, and limestone clay. Sucks wooden fence posts up fast. Old motor oil has been out friend.

We have some areas here with deep soil. In a heavy snow year the metal posts are pushed in the ground to where only a foot and a half is above ground. I have to go around and pull the T post out and replace it with wooden posts. Fencing is almost a full time job here. Right now I've got probably 3 miles of old fencing to pull out and at least 2 miles of new fence to build.

Doing a little mowing here too today. Only one cleaning job this morning. Vacuuming my house and pool this afternoon. Had to change sheets in the middle of the night. Bear, my German Shepherd threw up in bed (he has pancreatic insufficiency). Hubby went to couch, Bear slept good the rest of the night 😁. I'll squeeze a nap in sometime this afternoon!!

Hauling the boat in to the dealership for a spring service on the engine. Then a couple errands before coming home. Monday evening is scouts every week for me where I'm a leader. Tonight, we are meeting at my place and doing spring clean up along the roads and in the village. There's actually an organization that spearheads spring clean up in the area providing plastic bags and gloves then comes behind collecting up the trash afterwards. Last year, we cleaned up a stretch of rural road with a snowplow turnaround spot that had been a garbage dumping ground for years.

Was a PITA but it’s done and I needed them to be able to turn the power up a little more. I like the different colors.

Then I would use a 4x4x1/4 metal post, between your 50 t posts, here on the ranch, I put an extra t post on the corners on an angle to the corner vertical post the weld it to brace the corners, you could do the same, makes it very ridged. Also all my gates hang on a 4x4x1/4 posts concreted in, no sagging gates.

We had the appliance repairman come up today to fix our oven. He got a flat tire on our road. I changed the tire for him and he's finally gone. After break I'll get back on the fencing. I'm putting in an electric fence around part of our back yard so the horses can keep it mowed down. I need to set up a stock tank for water tonight. I'm looking to buy 3 more solar fence chargers. One isn't enough.
The cattle got out last night. Haven't seen them today. They'll probably come home eventually.

A New health issue. My blood Pressure is crazy going form 160/106 to 115/ 70.
This oscillation happened several times over last weekend.
I am normally a steady 130 over 80.
I see a cardiologist next week.
Hope all is ok. Keep us posted!!

I have no idea what these numbers mean, but it doesn't sound good. I hope you get it straightened out soon. Good luck.
