So today the Healthcare system sent me a physical Therapist. Her mission to follow up and asses my recovery. Train me for the future. Nice lady name Katy. She came to evaluate my progress and give some advice on exercises to improve my recovery.
Apparently, I am a bit ahead of the normal curve. She gave me several routines I wasn't using to help get the right leg to lift.
Right now, I can walk with the walker and even a cane but, I cannot lift the leg off the couch.
Ten evolutions done twice daily.
So, I did them.
Now I can't walk without pain.
Great!
We will try again tomorrow.
The bad news? I was hoping to beat the four month recovery period. She informed me that full recovery is a minimum 6 months and often a full year. Well, maybe & maybe not. I am determined to be functioning fairly normal in four months or less. At 79 Idon't have time to waste.
One thing help full did learn was I had the cane on the wrong side. I would think right leg right side cane. It wasn't working well. She told me try the cane on the left side. OMG the difference.
One more discovery today. Not only is my right leg 1 inch shorter. Worse, my foot is twisted out from 12:00 to abut 2:00. Not unusual in this injury. So, I will likely walk with a lisp. The truth is I have always had a hitch in my stride since I was 15 from my bad knee. Now it is much more pronounced.
Chester Good was my favorite character in "Gunsmoke." He walked with a "lisp."
Let's just call it character.
