We had yellow jackets build in between the walls and ate their way through our drywall!! I'm always on the lookout for them now outside the house. Oh, and we had an exterminator come to spray inside and out (two guys doing it at the same time) to eliminate the problem. They left the nest saying other bugs would eat it. Then we had a painter come repair the hole and paint over it, and can't tell it was ever there.
I bought some Tempo Dust and a sprayer for the lower parts of the house and it works in one or two days.

3 or 4 years ago I had a yellow jacket nest under one of my water spigots in the ground.
I didn't realize the nest was in then ground under the spigot. I was washing up outside at that spigot and felt 'electrical shocks' all over my legs. Fortunately while I was being repeatedly stung there was water splashing over my legs so the stings were pretty mild due to the water??? When I realized that I was being stung I hightailed it out of there. Returned with every type of killer I could find in my garage and poisoned & destroyed the burrow/nest.
Probably got stung 6 to 8 times but it, fortunately had little effect, again, I think because there was water running down my legs at the time.

The yellow jackets were horrible last year.

It is the start of "that season" again.
We have YELLOW JACKETS and WASPS buzzing around our pool area. Noticed an active Yellow Jacket nest and took some spray to that. In fact a lot of spray to that. I've seen 2 WASPS, probably Mud Daubers, but I don't really mess with them if they build their nests far enough away from where I spend my time.
The Yellow Jackets are literally flying assholes that look for trouble and go out of their way to sting people and make life miserable.
The Mud Daubers nests, if near a doorway are pretty ugly and scary but the wasps themselves are not aggressive toward people unless you make them mad.
It is the start of "that season" again.

Got attacked a couple of years ago by ground nesting yellow jackets, stung me repeatedly around my ankles. Ended up in the ER with an allergic reaction. Entire body covered in red blotches, and difficulty swallowing. Wasn't admitted, just treated with IV Benadryl and a breathing treatment and released. Been stung by wasps and yellow jackets many times over the years, but never had a reaction. Must've injected me with enough venom to cause it. Nasty buggers.

The Mrs. & I went fishing a few years ago with our pastor and his wife. One of the ladies in the congregation sold Avon and so we had an ample supply of "Skin-So-Soft" that's famous for it's mosquito repelling qualities and so the 'girls' applied it liberally (no pun) while we were in the parking lot getting out the poles and fishing tackle.
On the way down to the pier there was a 55-gallon drum that had been placed there for trash and being as this was hot summertime there were dozens of soda cans in it. And the yellow jackets were having a field day. There was a cloud of 'em over the trash drum. But then they got a whiff of the Skin-So-Soft and they left the Mountain Dew cans en masse! They flew right up those beachcomber pant legs and when the cloth pressed tight against them, out came the stingers!
The wives ran all the way back up the hill with the yellow jackets attacking until they'd sealed themselves inside the car with the windows up. That stuff might repel mosquitos but yellow jackets can't get enough. Unlike honey bees, they can sting more than once! Just ask the ladies at Central Wesleyan.

Some thirty-five ago I had a yellowjacket fly up my pants leg as I mowed over her ground nest. She stung me several times trying to get out of my jeans. I simply swatted her hard pushing a full load of her poison, (and maybe some guts) into my calf.
Her pain was instantly over. I limped with a swollen leg for weeks.

That's funny, well not funny. I had a similar experience, though not nearly as bad. Was digging around our foundation and had one fly up my shorts and sting me on the inside of my thigh, pretty close to, you know. The sting site itched fiercely for weeks.

There were some of us guys getting ready to go fishing and we stopped at Wayne's house to pick him up along the way. We all walked with him out to his barn to get his tackle and we had to dodge some wasps that were buzzing nearby. I looked up into the rafters and saw that they had a nest about 10 feet up along a brace post.
I spoke up, "Hey Wayne? I heard a guy tellin' how wasper worms are really great fish bait. You got a good nest of 'em right there."
"Well, I tell you what ... there's a ladder ... you can go up and get 'em if you want to!"
A few years ago we had yellow jackets a lot worse than normal. They killed 4 of our bee hives. They also ate almost all of our berries and grapes. There's always some critter that wants to eat everything that we grow here.
