Mighty short runway for such a big plane. Reminded me of watching a C5 galaxy take off from Harrisburg airport as a teen. They only did it one time and then went back to using a bigger airport and trucking the helo's to the depot. Looks like he could have used some JATO bottles for that takeoff.

Both pilot and co-pilot seats had to be thoroughly cleaned upon their arrival in Russia...

Fargo,ND, Hector International Airport played host to a Russian Antinov plane a number of years ago. They stopped there for fuel. 12th Ave North had to be closed during the landing and subsequent takeoff as the plane would be so low to the ground that the wash from the engines could have caused problems with cars. Hector has just enough runway for those big girls!

That one had a hard time getting into the air; this Airbus stops ground speed while in the air!

Once NASA landed the 747/Shuttle at the original Colorado Springs/Peterson AFB airport. This is short, crosswinds and 6000 ft altitude. They waited a day or 2 for cool AM air for takeoff then flew below mountaintop along the front range over the Air Force Academy.

My place was S of the AFA and that hardware flew directly over me at about 500' flaps hanging out and WOT.

It didn't stop. Very large planes can be going fairly fast but due to the optical illusion appear stopped or very slow.

Watching the Eurotrash A380 fly at Airventure a couple of years ago, it too appeared to 'hover' when doing a slow pass into the wind. It wasn't, it's airspeed was well over 150 mph.
