Streaming tv

I know nothing about streaming because our internet connection is too slow. That may be changing in the near future.
I do know that our son who lives in the UK and Spain and works in Dubai, carries his Firestick with him in all three places. He says it works pretty well everywhere.

I have 1 Amazon FIRE TV and dislike it. It is basically a Firestick built into the TV. Dislike it enough that I hooked up a ROKU box to the TV and use the ROKU streaming operating system instead of Amazon's operating system for Streaming.

Roku makes multiple types of devices, but they all are idiot proof.

Same here. I have smart TV's (not firestick smart). I hate the bloatware that comes on each TV so I opt to hook Roku up to every TV. I go for the version that has the volume in the remote so I can use the Roku remote for everything. One remote to deal with.
 
I got Roku a few months ago... Still learning how to use it. Lately I've been exploring the 'Live Tv'. Most of it I'd never watch but a couple weeks ago I found Boxing... Under free ‘live tv’ they have ‘hbo boxing after dark’ and the Top rank boxing’ channels. 2 channels of 24/7 boxing from the last 30yrs.

I became a big boxing fan in the 90’s. Just on regular cable tv there were 3 boxing shows during the week. Then there was HBO boxing, usually a big name fight once a month with the undercard. I traveled a lot for work. Always checked the local bars for any ‘Pay-per-view’ events they might be showing.

All that changed in 2000… No more hbo or pay-per-view and fights on cable became rare. Just an occasional fights on espn or one of the networks.

Now I can catch up on 25yrs of boxing… enjoying it immensely.
 
I sort of inherited a Roku tv. Found it on a table underneath a hoarders stuff. No remote to be found, so I got the model # off the tv and ordered one from Amazon for 6 bucks. Didnt have to set up or program anything into the tv, just put batteries into the remote, pointed it at the tv and it came on and worked perfectly. Connected itself to the wifi.

I like it, I dont watch much tv but I do use it for Youtube audio books and narrated novels, classics, and scripture. I watch an occasional episode of something on Tubi.
 
At least one of our TVs says Roku on it, but I don't know what that means, nor care. There's already more than enough crap channels on our Dish TV, don't want anymore. I wish we could get rid of all the junk channels that we'll never watch. Like all the sport channels.
 
I’ve had satellite tv for years, cable still isn't available. I pay for my parents hookup also. Dad only watches a few channels and mom another group of channels, but I can only get them as a package from the satellite. Costs a small fortune but it makes them happy.

I only got high speed fiber optic internet last year. After getting Roku… if it were just me I’d dump the satellite and save $140 a month. But my folks would never be able to figure Roku out. I still have to help them with the satellite remote sometimes and they've had it for 20yrs!

I pay $22 a month for 2 premium channels on Roku. I have AMC+ and Peacock tv. Peacock is NBC’s internet face. NBC sports coverage is great, 17 sport categories, more extensive than the espn bundle. I could watch sports 24/7 if I wished. But Peacock also carries the other NBC owned stations, excellent primetime tv and an endless supply of movies. AMC+ has great programming also. Shows like Dark Winds, Hell on Wheels, The Son, Turn (George Washington’s spy network), and a huge selection of movies that changes every month.

Both have first rate nature programming also, better than NatGeo or discovery.

Again, I wish I could dump the satellite but I'm stuck with it...

I don't know anything about streaming channels and I don't think that I care to. We have dish network satellite. There's more than enough junk on there without needing any more. I switch the TV on between 7 and 8 in the evening and switch it off at 10. So, any other services would be a waste of time and money.
 
Years ago my late MIL tried an antenna here. Picked up one channel, from Wichita Falls, intermittently. Then she got cable, I guess in 89? Very expensive at the time. Then much later satellite, also expensive.

Now we get internet bundled with the electric bill. Much cheaper.

I dont think any antennas would work here.

When I was in Bama and they switched to digital, I put 2 UHF antennas with a rotator and amplifier in the attic and got about 40-channels, FOR FREE!
It worked perfectly for years and we never needed anything else!
Everything still looked brand-new when we sold the place in 2018. :D
