Left Washington State in October 2025 and woke up one day here in Tonga drinking coffee and swimming with Humpback Whales 🐋. Fiji is next. A far cry from snow catting😎.

It went up 10 bucks per month on unlimited roaming. From 165 to 175.
Must be devastating to the full time traveler via boat budget.
Yes, sarcasm. Sort of.
Jealousy probably.
Sad I don't have a Nordhaven traversing the globe, certainly.
How about posting your progress weekly? Make me more jealous.

After we sold our last snow-cat we completed the Great Loop twice and started a third time only to sell in Alabama and moving into the blue water boat we have now. The Great Loop was fantastic for us (see looper boat below) but definitely not everyone’s cup of tea.

After purchasing Epic Nordhavn 4066 in Anacortes, WA in June 2025 we completed a run up into the Broughton Islands while cruising with an old barnacle and his lovely wife as they lead the way in their Halverson trawler.
We cut that trip short when we were sure we wanted to a a run to Mexico Sea of Cortez. Our first leg of the run from Anacortes to Santa Barbra was a non stop run a little over 8 days. The boat ran great. Then it was off to Dana Point for a rest and the 1st of November to Ensenada MX to stage for the run to Sea of Cortez. Puerto Escondido was fantastic hanging out with Mark Zuckerberg s crew over Christmas.
My wife asked me why we weren’t going to Nuku Hiva FP ? After checking if we could go that far and reviewing the boats log book maintenance it was determined it was a go.

With mental fortitude and a touch of stoicism we completed the daring crossing from LaPaz Mexico to Taiohae Bay ,Nuku Hiva ,French Polynesia in the Marquesas Islands (The land of men) 04/26.

Total distance traveled 2862.7 nautical miles, Total duration 24.18 days 580.4 hours

It wasn’t an uneventful voyage. With all the various sea conditions you might imagine at sea , it wasn’t treacherous.

Motor Yacht Epic N4066 equipped with active stabilizers and passive Paravane stabilization experienced a broken clevis head on the starboard active stabilizer. The following morning in daylight the passive Paravane stabilizers were deployed. Running with the port ABT operational and the passive Paravane stabilizers proved to be very comfortable. Unfortunately a knocking noise developed on the port strong back (part of the passive stabilizers) it was decided to stow the Paravanes to protect from any further loss of calibration (strong back needed adjustment). The single port side Active stabilizer was able to keep the boat stabilized throughout the remainder of the voyage.

Nonstop - no oil changes never shut down the main engine. The oil “was remarkably clean” looking and we are very interested to send the oil samples in for analysis.

Wheel watches were a bearcat ! Having never experienced such a long duration of non stop travel on the ocean, it took some manipulation in how we managed our wheel watches ( don’t fool yourself sleep deprivation is real and sneaks up on you over time) Everyone is different when it comes to a wheel watcher, what you eat , drink and if you exercise makes the difference in your mental health and ability to tolerate an “extreme environment change” .

It would be great to read more on the signs , symptoms and effects of poor preparation for a responsible watch person.

Our experience was it’s tough and we made many adjustments to insure a safe crossing.

Reading up on wheel watch alarms is a good start. Keep the alarm several feet away from the watch master on duty.

For Epic it was a two person boat with well defined expectations of duties. Cooking well addressed by the Admiral, Captian duties deck & Engine room checks ( bilge , temperature laser checks of various systems and components to see if any problems were coming) averaged every three hours on this voyage. Fuel tank management was every 10 hours on average.

There will be some time here in Nuku Hiva to make repairs and move on .

The Magnificent Seven Nordhavn fleet on the voyage provided technical support and local customs and expectations to help us be successful in the voyage and respectful visitors to the countries we visit.

The Highwaymen said it best “I’m going to take tomorrow now”.

The French Polynesian Marquese Islands did not disappoint, we traveled through the Polynesian Islands, The Tuamotu Islands are the world's largest chain of coral atolls, featuring nearly 80 low-lying islands across French Polynesia. They span over 1,700 kilometers in the South Pacific Ocean and are famous for their massive turquoise lagoons, rich marine life, and pearl farms. Swimming with Black Tip Sharks in blue lagoons were Epic.

Tahiti’s Papeete, Moorea ,Bora Bora were another Epic adventure although Aitutaki Cook Islands was our favorite because of the people.

Resting here in Neiafu, Tonga we are preparing for the run to Fiji. Parts for the generator arrived today and after installation were are out of here weather permitting.

Starlink has updated its Roam policies by cutting international use limits to 30 days and discontinuing global continuous roaming plans. [1, 2]

Recent Policy Changes (Effective August 17, 2026)
    • International Cap: International travel on Roam Unlimited is now restricted to a maximum of 30 daysper trip before requiring a return to your home country. [1]
    • Global Plan Axe: The expensive continuous Global Roam plan has been officially discontinued for both new and existing users. [1, 2]
    • Regional Restrictions: Cheaper tiered plans (like Roam 100GB and 300GB) are losing international roaming access entirely, leaving Roam Unlimited as the sole option for crossing borders. [1]

Current Roam Lineup & Pricing
    • Roam 100GB: Priced around $55 per month (unlimited low-speed data afterward, domestic use only).
    • Roam 300GB: Priced around $80 per month (mid-tier option,
    • domestic use only).
    • Roam Unlimited: Priced around $175 per month (unlimited high-speed data, required for international travel). [1, 2, 3, 4]
