I have a 2 band machine with external brakes. The inside splines are worn beyond limits on the ST 31's. Do's anyone know what the cast material is? I want to machine out the splines and replace them by welding in new ones. Be nice to know so I can order the right rod.

i can't answer your question but one type of fix was posted for the worn splines. it is buried in the archives someplace.

Since I'm having new axles made I was thinking I could mill 3 keyways. That should keep the axle from slipping. Ever heard of that?
