Something Odd!

When our power went out earlier this week, I thought I could still use my computer, since it did not necessarily need electricity.

When I started it up I found that the wireless network that I use was not available. It wasn't even on the wireless menu I use to login. Apparently since my landline phone, TV, and internet are all linked when one is out they all are out. So, bottom line, if you lose power you may lose internet services as well.

Has anybody else had this issue?

Yep. Same here. I have spectrum internet. When electric is out so is spectrum due to the modem the signal comes in on needs power. As does my router. So I get a whole house generator. I have power. Still no internet when electric is out. Somehow the cable system uses power off the power lines so when no electric, no internet even when I have power all through the house via my whole house genset.
If you can hotspot your phone to your laptop you can get a signal that way. That's how I do it if I need the laptop when power is off.

I have a few battery backup units here.
Can't believe I don't have a small one for our 5G router gateway. :(
Since it is connected wirelessly to the cell-tower, no wires to get blown down.
And like everything else down here in hurricane-land, the tower has a backup generator.:)
... Probably need to move a backup unit to connect the gateway to. 51395-da4b1372525e9bd4e81ed3083d1ade99.gif
