I think this is the last crappy job, some of the bearings have to be replaced, as they were pretty loose and rough when turned. The others all had to be disassembled, taking the bearing insert out of the housing and clean the grease channel and the hole that lets the grease into the bearing along with the grease nipple, the dried grease was hard like silicone. I wonder how many times the previous owner thought he greased it.

had to go to the field this morning but had time when I got back to pull the power unit out.
Pretty good design as a module that the engine and whole drive and steering system are mounted in a common frame that bolts into the tub. That makes maintenance much easier. I’m going to clean it up a little, change oil on the engine and transmission and put it in, looking at I think it needs to go in before the drive axels.

Still working on bearings today after real work, I got 2 more bearings, both had to be cut and broken off the shaft.
Neither would take grease and you can’t take the bearing apart on the shaft.
2 more shafts or 4 bearings to go. I’ll be happy when it’s done.
Also cleaned up the power unit by blowing it off with compressed air then a wipe down with degreaser then Acetone.
I’m not doing a full restoration, just a good clean up and address any mechanical issues the engine ran good as well as the clutches and transmission.

All the bearings are done, the tub is elevated on wood blocks to a good elevation to assemble it.
The assembly has officially started, the first piece installed was the floor grate. for non slip and to stiffen the bottom.
Next will be the drive module, then the roll cage, today I realized that every thing bolted to the tub over the tracks has to be done before the tracks, or you can’t get to the bolts. Also changed oil in the engine and transmission. Been a long time since I worked on it last, now I have to figure it out as I go

Had to help out in the shop some today, but still got a little more done.
Roll bar and roof are pieced together but bolts are not tight, same with the rails that te roll bar bolts to.
I had already bought new stainless hardware when I worked on it last, sure making bolt up nice.
Right now I’m still on schedule to get it done around Christmas. Next week i have to go to the field for a few days and then the holiday, so won’t get much done, it’s raining all weekend so I can hit it pretty hard.

Doesn’t look much different today, but a bunch of bolt tightening happened along with pulling the seats apart for the seat cushions, I think this will be what it gets. The seat frames are pretty ugly and look like they were made for something much larger, ugly and out of place. I will make something small and simple to mount them.
Also need to clean the yellow tint on them from overspray being stored in the shop for years, even covered they got it.
I got most of it off the coot seats with acetone and a rag. Getting close to putting the undercarriage on.

The new fuel tank showed up yesterday and I’m recovered from Thanksgiving so I worked on installing it this afternoon.
Lucky we do lots of different types of work projects, there is always some type of materials that will work for my needs.
Today those needs were somthing to space the tank up 2” to clear the sump on the bottom of it. Found some 1/4” wall 2”x2” aluminum tube that worked great. Drilled and tapped for 3/8” bolts on the top 4 corners and had to bevel them to clear the radius on the rear of the tub. Tomorrow I will drill up from the bottom of the tub into the square tubes and tap 3/8” to secure the tubes to the tub.
It’s a 10 gallon tank, I looked up the fuel consumption of the 18 hp B/S motor which is between 0.5 and 0.7 gallons per hour. Even using the higher number that gives me more than 14 hours of run time under full load. And more than a 100 mile range.

I got a little more done today, re insulated the muffler, painted the heat shield and got it mounted, along with the bolt up of the gas tank thru the tub into the aluminum spacer tubes.

Today I got the tabs on that index the seats
Hooked up most of the electrical connections except things that have been deleted, after adding a light bar and winch I will clean up the harness some
Threw in a battery, everything that needs to work does
Installed the electric fuel pump with a new filter and connected to the fuel tank, carburetor and electrical harness.
Getting real close to installing the undercarriage and tracks.

Had about 4 hours of free time so I started on the tracks/undercarrage.
What a #@&$ bitch, happy I don’t do that for a living. It’s about a 8 hour job per side of up down up down.
The tracks weigh around 250-300#

Put in another 4 hours today and got her back on one foot, my son volunteered to help me tomorrow to get the other side done. Once she is on her feet, there will only be a day or two left on miscellaneous item like the drive sprockets and chains and a few others. Then double check everything and give it a go.

After a 5 year rest torn apart, the old gal is back on her feet. Tracks and undercarriage are done, and I think it was the last hard time consuming Job on it. Still need to put the drive sprockets on the shafts.
Make up 3 chains and tension everything.
Finish the handlebar clamps for the throttle and brake that I lost. ( after sitting around that long I am happy that’s all that came up missing)
Put some gas in the tank and give it a go.
After that I plan to add a light bar or two, front and rear receivers for trailer hitch and winch.
Clean up some wiring and what ever else comes to mind. I will play with it some around here then take it to the mountain.

All 3 drive chains are on along with tensioning.
Throttle and brake levers are mounted with the fabricated clamps, although I had to make new ones from thicker material, the first set just kept bending around the handle bar instead of clamping
Put new lugs on the battery
Squirted some gas in the carburetor and it started and ran on the little bit of gas as seen in the video.
It’s raining today so tomorrow I will drag it outside put some gas in the tank and give it a go.
Then some improvements. I think I will buy it a new optima battery, going to have a winch, lots of lights and maybe a small inverter.. not much left, I hear the fat lady warming up for the song.
