Property taxes are insane. We're at #47, which is still way too high. This list doesn't count any offsets or reductions. For example, my state has a homestead exemption where the first $150,000 is exempt. We also have a timber and agricultural exemption. Our property is worth considerably more than $400,000 and our property taxes run about $1,000 per year. It was $37 when we bought the place about 15 years ago.

How lucky am I, we are lucky number 7. :bonk:
Here, and I think about everywhere, the amount you are taxed on is a percentage of the real estimated value. A 400k tax might be on a 6 or 700k home.
No matter, property taxes are thievery. There is a big movement to abolish property taxes in Ohio. It is an up hill battle for sure. I doubt it ever happens but I've signed the petitions and helped get the word out.

I don’t think they give 2 shits around here
As a refugee from 'the other place', which had been overtaken by whining church-ladies, I must say how wonderful it is being able to speak clearly again with a full vocabulary.
I still have to correct myself from the habit of using 'munge-words' to escape their star monster, like saying:
"That doesn't mean a damthing to me."

Back on topic.
Florida property tax is wildly variable because each county sets its own rates.
I can't speak to the $400,000 chart above.
We do not live in one of the "trendy" counties, we have 5 acres with a double wide, two barns, horse stable, hay shed, wife's storage shed, chain link chicken area, 6 chicken coops.

Our county (Nassau County if you care to look), values the whole shebang at $76,000 for tax purposes but we could sell it for 3 times that in 10 minutes.

The way our taxes work is - a $25,000 homestead exemption, another $25,000 exemption for being over 65, and then the rest of the value is written off because our adjusted gross income is below the federal poverty level.
So, on our property all we have to pay is $189 to the school board.

I love living in the Free State of Florida.

Dammit, we give 3 shits. Yeah, we are over achievers. LOL
There is a C word and a N word that will get ya in trouble but otherwise post however you feel at the moment.
