There are 3 Olympians, at least 5 national champions, the head training coach for the International Fencing Federation (FIE), a couple national team coaches and me???
This is for a proposed 10 day international training clinic to train coaches and high level fencers from all around the world.
So for whatever it is worth, I have turned down the position to coach at the clinic.
I am simply not qualified.
The guy putting on the clinic specifically selected me and I don't know why other than he wants to help inflate my reputation, which is already too inflated. But I'm literally a guy with zero serious competition experience who just keeps getting lucky beyond all logic. I have a small all volunteer club that trains local kids in the basement of a doctor's office and I coach at 'club' (NOT NCAA) level in college. I'm already coaching above my skill level and I try to be blunt about my abilities. Somehow I just manage to get highly skilled people to work with me, and on my behalf, and so my students end up winning and for some reason people give me credit but I never accept the credit.
Clearly there is a huge shortage of coaches.
