I'm looking to buy a new mower for our orchard and was hoping to get imput from people here that know more than I do. I'm currently using a 24 hp DR brush cutter. It's a handful to mow around the trees and fencing, and I have the scars to prove it.
I've been looking online and I've seen some remote control models. The one I like is a low profile 4 wheel drive with a 6.5hp motor. This looks like it will mow under the trees nicely. There's also some models with tracks, but I think they might be too tall.
Has any one here ever used a remote control mower before? I don't want an electric mower.
 
Using that big DR to mow the orchard has thrown me in to the barb wire fence many times. I always have bloody knuckles and hands every time I mow. The ground in our orchard is really too rough for a walk behind mower. I'm not looking forward to spending $2000 - $6000 for a mower for at most 2 or 3 acres.
 
I had a DR brush cutter for years. Damn, that thing was hard work. I will say that it was easy to start and almost indestructible, or I thought it was, until I loaned it to my SIL. Somehow, she managed to seize up that industrial B&S engine. So, I can understand your wish to get rid of it.

The short answer to your question is NO, I don't have any experience with remote controlled mowers. I've seen them advertised but never had a need for one. All my stuff is a lot more conventional. If you do go down that road please keep us informed as I, for one, would be interested.
 
if you have a tractor capable of it what about a hydraulic cycle bar off set to get under the trees?

Nothing beats a zero turn for getting around trees, but it sounds like you might have some rough ground since you're using a DR brush cutter.

A zero turn would be great, except the tree limbs are too low on most trees. Yes, the ground is very rough. Before I planted the orchard I just cleared the trees and brush and started digging holes for the trees. When I get time, I'll rototill between the trees and rake it out smooth.
About 2/3's of our old garden will become our expanded pig pen, so I can quit mowing it. Eventually the pigs will have 10 acres to roam and graze in.
