Notice that the Airbus' props on each wing turn opposite each other . I wonder what the advantage to that is .
The Russian clone has Counter rotating props ,ALA the bear , AN22,Fairy(sic) Gannet ,and Shackleton Bomber.

the counter rotating props are a cool idea but to put it into practice is an expensive story you effectively tripple your maintainence requirements my understanding is on the bear, more maintainance hours are preformed on that airframe than flying hours.the c17 was supposed to relpace the hurc but wound up replacing the c141the hurc is like the duce and will be around for ever the latest models hav HUD. and more powerful engines

You would think Boeing would be all over this contract as well as others. I have a hard time with the idea of outsourcing this type of "hardware". A line should be drawn at some point, I think....

I didn't mean to come across as saying that these were direct replacements for the C-130 . But I do see the Europeans ,and Russians working on a tactical airlift machine while We aren't .
God bless 53-3129 wherever You are .

I feel quite certain St. Peter took charge of the old warrior and she now resides in heaven, hauling old soldiers to Valhala, with, of course, appropriate side trips to Saigon for blow jobs.
