Donald Trump's administration is directly tied to the issue because federal policies under his leadership have significantly accelerated the sale of wild horses and actively sought to remove their anti-slaughter protections.

While the Bureau of Land Management (BLM) sales program has historical enforcement gaps across multiple past presidencies, specific budget actions and policy changes under the Trump administration have intensified scrutiny from animal welfare organizations.

We have programs killing wild hogs by the thousands for the same reasons.

They should just leave them alone, around Reno and to the north there are wild horses, if they leave them alone, maybe they would eat the friggin grass that’s burning across that area ruining everything. There is nothing out there until it comes to a town or city to burn up.

Without culling the herd, many will starve for lack of forage.
Either way, they die.

Every one is welcome to adopt one or more, the U.S. Wildlife Service will help you with the process.

But I suspect that the loudest voices are Karens in suburbia living on postage stamp sized lots.

Just because it's growing doesn't mean it's edible for them. Adopt the horses out and turn some goats out there instead. The goats will eat the vegetation, coyotes will eat the goats, it's a win, win!!😉

Nobody would have touch my Goat or my sister horses and my horses
Otherwise................
My sister still have the horses we saved with my cousins ..some died of old age
but she still have some we did buy from auction
 
There are wild horse populations in 10 western states: Arizona, New Mexico, Nevada, Utah, Wyoming, Montana, Oregon, Idaho, Colorado and California. When I was younger I remember many of the ranchers would go out and cull the horses and burros themselves. No government was needed. Later my first horse was a wild mustang that was caught in Eastern Oregon. I don't like the idea of the government managing anything, but with today's over population of people, there's no other choice. There just isn't enough grass and land to go around for the wildlife, wild horses, cattle and domestic horses.

100% Agree.
HOWEVER,
Limited resources will kill populations. So, it is a matter of priorities and ranchers need the grass to raise beef.
 
Touchy subject yes, but we do need grasslands for cattle. Yes, people can adopt wild horses, and management is the only way to help these horses. But slaughter houses are cruel. It's all about finding balance. It can't continue....
 
Or we could sell them at a discount to the French. I believe that they still eat horse meat. I've never tried it, but I knew a guy who did. He said it was somewhat reminiscent of deer meat but a little sweeter and a little tougher.

Only ranchers can't afford cattle anymore, so we have to import beef from Venezuala.
US beef cattle herds are at the lowest since the early 1950's.

Ranchers are making damn good money on their beef now days. Horses are bringing high prices too, even for junk horses. Famers are making damn good money on feed and grains. Just this past week I've had two calls from people that wanted to buy beef from me. They're willing to pay $5,000 or more per head. These are great times for livestock producers. For most cow/calf operations, the ranchers produce their own replacement heifers. They may still buy some replacement bulls but most of their growth comes from within their existing herds by selling less female feeder calves. I really don't see a down side to importing beef from S America.

Cattle ranchers around here are doing well! The left decimated our cattle population on purpose. Importing beef is necessary for a while so ranchers can get their herd numbers back up.

YES, climate idiots and leftist socialists/communists are THE reason cattle were being wiped out in masses, AND wild horse herds and grasslands were not being managed. I hate to see a good horse go to slaughter, but they'll suffer on poor range conditions.

The decent horses are being adopted out. Many are then sold on the open market. The old and marginal ones are being culled, same as they always have been. The wild horses have always been managed. First by being rounded up and used as ranch horses, and for calvary stock by the US army. Later, local ranchers managed the numbers on their range. Now days people want to pay the government to do what was already being done for free for well over a hundred years. It's a "feel good" thing for some people to see the government managing these animals. The numbers get reduced every year.

There is plenty of grass for them to eat north of Reno, I would imagine if I were a horse, the worse day in the wild would beat any day in captivity.

The wild Horse control agency of our government was not created by President Trump. Like so many government programs that were not operating at proper levels, He has put them back to working and functioning as they were intended by the people's Congress.
He is doing the job of administering as the Presidency's responsibility requires.
So, Trump doesn't hate wild horses as implied by the post. He is doing his job, that for which he was elected.

The grass is managed too. The Forest Service and BLM both have range managers that keep track of the amount of forage on range lands. The ranchers on two of the grazing allotments bordering me had to remove their cattle early because all the springs went dry.
EVERYTHING is managed now days.
 
They have been managing those wild horses for how long? A hundred years? More? When they can’t sell enough they kill enough to keep the herd manageable. I’m unsure why you think President Trump has any direct action in this program. In wild herds they are either culled or they starve and nature takes care of the problem. I’d rather them die from a quick shot but if you’d rather have thousands of starving horses, I guess that is more natural. If you went down there with trailers and cash I’m sure they would sell you as many horses as you want.
