I don't know how many of you have heard of the Westboro Baptist Church in Topeks, KS but they are a bunch of loonies who showup for various protests and lately they have started picketing the funerals of soldiers killed in Iraq and harassing the families of those soldiers. To give you and idea of where these people are here is two of their websites.

Their way of thinking is 9/11, Indiana tornados, hurricane Katrina and the dead soldiers coming back from the war on terror are this nation's punishment for allowing homosexual to exist in this country.
Here is the kind of stuff they do at military funerals as well as chant.

In order to honor the fallen heros and shield the families the Patriot Guard Riders have formed to appear at the funerals and provide a buffer.

Regardless of where you are for or against the war, like or hate George Bush the families and the fallen soldier deserve respect in their time of sorrow without being harassed by these idiots.

These are the photos from PFC Travis Grigg's services in Inola, OK last Saturday.

Brian, I saw the protests a week or so ago and could not believe my eyes. For these people to come out and harrass the families of dead soldiers is vile.

Fanatics on any side are dangerous.:2gunsfiri There is an old saying, you can go so far to the right, that you wind up coming back from the left. An extremist is nothing more than a terrorist, domestic or foriegn. I think there is a passage in "The Good Book" that goes something like this, "Let he who has no sin, cast the first stone". Also something about treating others, as you would like to be treated. The fanatics and other fundamentalists seem to take what pleases them, and ignore the rest.:smileywac Sorta like some of the Union members I represent, and some managers I don't. Seems common sense and reasonable rationality, have gone the way of hula hoops and '53 Buick Roadmasters, rare.

These kind of idiots make me want to retreat upnorth and buy bullets. Or win the lotto and start my own country.:coolshade

Well said Brian. Like Bob said, it is vile! Reminds me of Viet nam all over again. Those who serve are only doing what the president orders. It is so sad to see thhe families who have lost a loved one have to put up with this kind of crap!

Did not go to the sites, dont want to be mad this evening, but even thinking of disturbing a funeral of a service man or woman is just showing how big an A$$ you are. They are close to being a cult with this.

doing it in the guise of "christian" makes me sick. These people are not christian in my world. No one likes war, but no one likes tyranny or being a dictatorship worse. I used to tell somene that NEVER saw good in anything American, if you dont like it here move to say IRAQ, and that was BEFORE our men and women did their work there.

Seems like there should be a law AGAINST this action.

My personal feelings about the war aside, these protestors have no business being allowed anywhere near the funeral. The only possible positive thing about their protest is that it could unite many groups that are generally thought to be foes: gays, conservatives, liberals, "moral majority" types, etc.

I hope you mean that the above mentioned foes unite against the fools causing trouble at the funerals. The actual war is something I'm not very comfortable with. Perhaps for different reasons than most of the "anti-war" crowd, but I'm not a big supporter of the actual war; troops, a big yes, losing American lives for the Iraqi people who want to kill us anyway, no.

You are correct. What I meant is that it takes morons like these to get gays, conservatives, etc. to unite against such lunacy.

It's too early for me on a Sat morning to be serious, although I have to work today. :tiphat:
