End of Winter

The most open winter I have ever witnessed in Montana. Just no snow that held below 7,000 feet. Upper elevations hard to access. Got the KRISTI out a few days ago for a high elevation run near the Lincoln-Scapegoat Wilderness. Access road in good condition, but still had to cat through intermittent exposed dirt to get up to the hero snow. Bluebird day so took the hood off to assist in cooling.

We didn't have much of a winter here. I didn't plow a single time, never even put the chains on the tractor. Didn't put the tracks on the side by side either. We normally have 5 or 6 feet on snow on the ground. May 1st is usually when we turn the cows out on pasture, and we usually still have patches of snow on the higher elevations on our property. This year January looked more like May. We did save a lot of hay though.

It just would not be right if we didnt take a bug al, boggie or snow trac-ing nome minute of silence. We have a kristi moving under its own power here on the forum. That used to be a big deal.

Now its normal and expected. Sounds pretty stout

There's an alpine lake about 12 miles from our front door. It's usually snowed in until the first week of July. With the lack of snow this winter we might be able to get up there in June.
Here at our house, the last snow is usually the last week of June.

Blazing a trail is exciting, ... but it is also rewarding to follow the path of those who came before us.

After all,... we're all going to the same place. :)
